After sweeping the New York Yankees on Sunday, the Boston Red Sox sent massive shockwaves across the MLB. The team announced the trade of Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants. An MLB analyst later unloaded on the team for this move.

Devers had been in spotlight this year for his actions off the field. Following the signing of Alex Bregman, the Dominican international refused to give up his 3B position. After some internal discussions, the position was given to Bregman with Devers getting the designated hitter (DH) role.

After a slow start to the season due to a new position, Devers was once again asked to change to play in a new position. Following Triston Casas‘ injury, Devers was asked to play as the first baseman. He would once again decline this.

All of this led to some speculations that he could be traded away by the team. After hitting another home run against the Yankees and helping the Red Sox sweep their arch-rivals, Devers was officially traded away to the San Francisco Giants.

Social would later explode with this news. While there were many mixed reaction to this development, the Red Sox fans were left heartbroken with it. Many of them slammed the organization for trading away one of their top stars.

MLB analyst and Red Sox fan Jared Carrabis was among those who took a swipe at the team for trading away Devers. While reposting a tweet about the Giants welcoming the 4-time All-Star to their club, the analyst attacked his team and unloaded on them.

The Red Sox are so f****** stupid, man. I don’t blame anyone who says they’re done with this dumbass franchise.

Devers was currently in the second year of his $313.5 million contract extension, which he had signed in 2023. As a part of this deal, the Red Sox received Jordan HicksKyle HarrisonJose Bello and James Tibbs III. As for the Giants, they will now cover the entirety of Devers’ contract, which is reported to be around $250 million from here on out to 2033.

Giants’ division rival reacts to team acquiring Rafael Devers through trade from Red Sox

Despite losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday, the San Francisco Giants were the big winners. The team acquired Rafael Devers from the Boston Red Sox in a trade deal that has shocked the entire MLB fandom. A rival of the Giants would later react to this huge development.

The news of Devers’ trade broke out just a few hours after the Red Sox had swept the Yankees. At that time, the Dodgers were taking on the Giants at the Dodger Stadium.

During the game, Clayton Kershaw was speaking with the broadcasters. In this, he would laud Giants GM Buster Posey for his work and label Devers as one of the top hitters of the current generation.

That’s wild. Buster’s really doing it, Buster Posey’s really doing it over there. Good for Buster, man. He’s going for it. I consider Rafi one of the top ten hitters in the game at worst. He’s definitely a game changer. It’ll be interesting to see what position he plays over there.

The Giants had been looking to add a big name to their roster for a while. The team was involved in talks with superstars like Aaron Judge, Shohei Ohtani, and Carlos Correa in the past and tried to get them through free agency. At that time, they ended up falling short.

The team has now acquired one of the top names in MLB. Following a struggling start to the season, Devers has found his form again and is batting with a .272 average while having 15 home runs and 58 RBI.

The Giants are also in the race for the top spot this season. Despite losing 5-4 to the Dodgers, they are just 2 games behind their rivals with a 41-31 record.

It now remains to be seen what kind of reaction Devers will have to this trade. He will have a reunion with his former team soon as the Red Sox travel to Oracle Park to take on the Giants this weekend.
