“I f**ked up!” Referee admits to BIZARRE mistake after ejecting Andre Drummond and reversing decision

After wrongfully throwing out Drummond out of the game, officials revoke her decision

In a bizarre turn of events, Andre Drummond was initially ejected from the game due to a mistaken call. However, once the referee realized her error, she revoked the decision and allowed Drummond to return. During the San Antonio Spurs vs. Philadelphia 76ers game, female referee Jenna Schroeder was initially convinced by a flop from Victor Wembanyama. Shortly after, she recognized how wrong she had been.

In the second quarter, Andre Drummond received his first technical foul on what appeared to be a flop by Wembanyama. Soon after, he was hit with another technical foul, effectively ejecting him from the game. However, something strange happened that led her to have a change of heart. She reversed her initial decision of ejecting Drummond and instead gave a technical foul to Victor Wembanyama for flopping.

Admitting her oversight, she explained to the 76ers head coach, Nick Nurse, “I fu*ked up. He [Wembanyama] gets a technical,” as she rescinded her decision. Following this, Andre Drummond returned from Philadelphia’s locker room. When fans saw their center reappearing via the tunnel, they were fired up and delighted.

It is very rare for referees to admit their mistakes and overturn their calls. Schroeder’s willingness to correct her mistake in real time, even with all the scrutiny from fans, sets a good example for other officials. Her admission also highlighted the human side of officiating, where bad calls are bound to happen when referees have to rely solely on their naked eyes. Still, she did her utmost to keep the game fair and uphold its integrity.

Referee Jenna Schroeder later ejected Joel Embiid in the next quarter

The matchup between the Spurs and the 76ers was a night full of bad calls. The trouble for referee Jenna Schroeder didn’t seem to stop with Andre Drummond. In the third quarter, she went on to eject the franchise player, Joel Embiid, who received his second technical foul after arguing with the officials.

This triggered a strong reaction from him. The Big Man was livid to learn he had been ejected and went on to dispute Schroeder’s call. Animatedly upset over the decision, Joel Embiid had to be restrained by his bench as he exchanged heated words with the referee. People in the stands were also furious at the officials, as boos echoed through the arena.

Fans took to Twitter to mock the officials for such poor officiating, with many remarking that it’s no wonder NBA viewership is declining. Throwing out star players over arguments has been disappointing for viewers and drawing complaints for quite some time now.

Nonetheless, Philadelphia went on to beat the Spurs 111-106. After a slow start, the 76ers seem to be back on track, winning 6 of their last 9 games. Before being ejected, Joel Embiid had 9 points on 2-8 shooting from the field, making one of his four three-point attempts while grabbing 3 rebounds, along with two steals and one assist.
