NFL legend Reggie Bush, who retired from the sport in 2017, is focusing on tennis and will be traveling to Wimbledon this year thanks to his daughter Briseis Bush. Briseis, 10, is a tennis player in the making and has planned to watch Coco Gauff and Naomi Osaka‘s matches at Wimbledon.

Dreaming of becoming a tennis player, Briseis aims to visit Wimbledon multiple times, not as a spectator but as a competitor. Papa Bush wants Briseis to take part in different tournaments to experience what it means to be a competitor.

He admitted that as a parent he won’t help much when it comes to knowing about herself and the game she plays. This is why he thinks, competing in tournaments will help Briseis know things she hasn’t learned while just practising.

I like doing tournaments just to get her feet wet, so she can see what the competition is like. Practice is practice, but competing is a different thing. It’s great, and I think it’s good for the mind and good for the spirit because you learn a lot about yourself in those moments. And those are things that mommy and daddy can’t teach.

Being a celebrity, he knows its effects, both positive and negative. Bush doesn’t want his celebrity status to be any distraction to Briseis during matches. He feels, to avoid being a distraction, he has to make sure somehow his daughter is not seeing him in the stands.

The last thing I want to do is be a distraction for her. I try to remove myself from her vision so that she’s not looking at me after every good or bad point.

Briseis started playing tennis when she was five and Naomi Osaka is her role model. The Japanese star even sent her Osaka Barbie to the 10-year-old kid.

As Papa Bush was not much of a help in her training, he hired Cecil Mamiit as her coach. The former player is a resident of Los Angeles and represented the Philippines and won an Asian Games bronze medal in 2006 in singles. He reached his best in the ATP Rankings (World No. 72) in 1999.
