Reggie Miller claimed he owns the New York Knicks and the Madison Square Garden on his return

For the New York Knicks, the name Reggie Miller brings some really bad memories. So much so that they still resent him even though nearly 30 years have passed since he last embarrassed the Knicks at their home. Especially after Miller claimed to own Madison Square Garden, Knicks fans sounded out a chant.

TNT covered today’s game 2 of the playoffs. Therefore, the former Indiana Pacers legend was a part of the commentary team. Before going out into the arena, Miller told Inside the NBA crew that he owned the city and did not fear entering the famed Madison Square Garden Arena once again.

I’ve owned this city. I’ve owned this building. So why would I be worried about walking out there.

He added that even though Knicks fans resented him for ensuring their exit from the 1995 playoffs, they appreciated his body of work. Nevertheless, he maintained his cockiness by still talking trash.

This background is probably one of the most defining moments in Reggie Miller’s career. In the 1995 Eastern Conference 2nd round, his Pacers met the New York Knicks again. This was after the Pacers lost to them in the previous season and sought revenge.

The Indiana Pacers and Miller particularly did exactly that as he scored 8 points in 9 seconds to help them win game one at Madison Square Garden and eventually the series. Miller suggested that the Knicks were choke artists. It is something the New York Knicks fans have not forgotten that to date.

New York Knicks fans let Reggie Miller know their true feelings

As tonight’s game 2 of the playoffs drew to a close and the New York Knicks in command, their fans decided to give something back to Reggie Miller. They started chanting in unison, “F**k you, Reggie!

They were not going to let this chance slip away. Having Reggie Miller in their building and not making him hear them out was not an option for them.

Those playoffs were probably the best chance the New York Knicks had in the Patrick Ewing and Pat Riley era to win an NBA Championship. It has eluded the storied franchise for more than 20 years. Unless the Knicks win an NBA title, it is highly likely that Reggie Miller will still be on their minds. If he shows up at Madison Square Garden again, chances are he will again face hostile verbal bashing from the crowd.
