Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has questioned Virat Kohli’s attitude towards cricket when ex-India captain is going through a lean patch. Kohli had a tough year in 2021, which was clearly visible in IPL 2022 when the batsman, who once had scored a mammoth 973 runs in a season in IPL could score not even 350, often became victim to golden ducks.
Leading the India team in 2021 in ICC T20I World Cup, where the team got knocked out, Kohli stepped down from white-ball captaincy soon after it and this year, to the dismay of Indian fans, Kohli called it quits to Test captaincy as well. For two years, Kohli didn’t register an international century as well.
In the ongoing five-match T20I between India and South Africa after the conclusion of IPL 2022, Kohli is given rest before the hectic international match schedule. Shahid Afridi here took a dig at Kohli and criticised him over his attitude; condemned him of whether he is content with what he has achieved.

“Does Kohli even want to be No. 1 again?”- Shahid Afridi
“In cricket, attitude matters the most. That is what I talk about the most. Do you have an attitude towards cricket or not? That Kohli, earlier in his career, wanted to be the No. 1 batsman in the world… is he still playing cricket with the same motivation? That is the big question,” Afridi told Pakistan news channel “Samaa TV”.
“He has the class. But does he really even want to be No. 1 again? Or does he think he has achieved everything in life. Now just relax and pass time? It’s all about attitude,” he added,
“It’s not a lot of people who mentioned it (taking a break),” Kohli told Star Sports in an interview. “There is one person precisely who has mentioned it which is Ravi bhai and that’s because he has seen from close quarters over the last six-seven years the reality of the situation that I have been in.” This he said before taking a break.
