West Indies bowler Alzarri Joseph scalped four wickets to help West Indies beat Zimbabwe by 31 runs on Wednesday [October 19] at the Blundstone Arena in Hobart.
West Indies had won the toss and decided to bat first. Johnson Charles’ 45-run knock carried their innings to 153/7 in 20 overs.
During Zimbabwe’s chase, skipper Regis Chakabva departed first off Joseph’s over on nine runs off three balls. Joseph then shattered Tony Munyonga’s stumps in the fifth over.
In the next over, Oben McCoys dismissed Sean Williams on one run, while Jason Holder grabbed Wesley Madhevere’s wicket in the next over. Madhevere scored 27 runs off 19 balls (with three fours and a six) before Holder served it as a tad shot outside off. Madhevere threw smacked the ball but didn’t get the desired elevation. Evin Lewis, at the backward point, stretched to his left and caught the ball.
Odean Smith dismissed Zimbabwean star batter Sikander Raza who scored 14 runs off eight balls with a four and a six. Ryan Burl became the victim of Holder in the 14th over. Burl had scored 17 runs off 19 balls with three fours.
Luke Jongwe scored the most runs for Zimbabwe. He played 22 balls to score 29 runs with three fours and a six at a strike rate of 131.82 before Joseph was dismissed in the 18th over. No Zimbabwean batter could reach the 30-run mark in the innings and get bowled out on 122 in the 18.2 overs. Joseph scalped four wickets, the most for his team, and conceded 16 runs in his four overs at an economy of 4.
