Serbian tennis legend Novak Djokovic is defying all the odds even at the age of 37 as he is into yet another Grand Slam final. The 24-time Grand Slam champion defeated Lorenzo Musetti in the semifinal of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships to make it to his 37th Grand Slam final. Djokovic will face Carlos Alcaraz in a rematch of the 2023 Wimbledon final.
While a Serbian reaching a Grand Slam final may not seem as remarkable, given Djokovic has achieved it 36 times before, doing so just five weeks after undergoing knee surgery makes this qualification particularly special. Additionally, Djokovic’s win percentage in these Grand Slam finals is impressive; out of the 36 finals he has played so far, he has won 24.
A win percentage of 66.67% is enough to blow away anyone’s mind even if it is former Australian coach, Rennae Stubbs. She is so impressed with Djokovic’s consistency that Stubbs has hailed the Serbian as “Not human“. After Djokovic reached the 2024 Wimbledon final, Stubbs highlighted the fact that the Serbian has been able to reach the final of more than half of the Grand Slam tournaments he has played.
The amount grand slams finals @DjokerNole has reached, is UNBELIEVABLE! I mean just UNBELIEVABLE! Like half the slams he's competed in, he's made the final match. He's NOT human! What an incredible athlete.Rennae Stubbs posted on X
It is worth mentioning that Djokovic has a win/loss record of 370-49 at Grand Slam tournaments (excluding 2024 Wimbledon). With a career win/loss index of 0.88, Djokovic stands tall against his opponents.
Novak Djokovic eyeing eighth Wimbledon title
While Novak Djokovic has an impeccable record in Grand Slam tournaments, the Serbian has been struggling to make it happen this year. This is the first Grand Slam final Djokovic has reached in the 2024 season. In the first two Grand Slam tournaments, he looked out of touch.
Nevertheless, the Serbian has shown no signs of struggle at the 2024 Wimbledon, dropping only two sets so far. Now, with Carlos Alcaraz in front of him in the final, Djokovic has his task doubled considering the way Alcaraz played in last year’s final.
Also, the Spaniard is high on confidence, having won the title at the 2024 Roland Garros. Djokovic is aware of Alcaraz’s stupendous form but is determined to win his eighth Wimbledon title. If he manages to do it on Sunday, the 37-year-old will become the first tennis player to win 25 Grand Slam titles.
