Iga Swiatek had success in tournaments one after the other earlier this year. However, she hasn’t won a WTA title since her historic fourth French Open triumph. After her quarterfinal exit from the US Open, Swiatek withdrew from the China Open and later announced her split from coach Tomasz Wiktorowski.

Wim Fissette is now working with Swiatek and the WTA Tour Finals will be his first tournament as Swiatek’s coach. Serena Williams‘ former coach Rennae Stubbs joked about how male coaches quickly find new players to work with after getting fired.

I mean, are we surprised by this? Again this is not a slight on Wim Fissette, I want to get that straight. The fact that these men just fail up, just makes me laugh. I’m not saying fail like failed, but they get fired and then they get picked up in one week to work with somebody else. It makes me laugh so much.

Wiktorowski joined Swiatek’s team in 2021 and under him, the 23-year-old lifted four of her five Grand Slam titles and also reached the top of the rankings. Her new coach Fissette, previously worked with Grand Slam winners like Naomi Osaka, Victoria Azarenka, Kim Clijsters, Simona Halep, and Angelique Kerber

Rennae Stubbs says Iga Swiatek made the right decision by hiring Wim Fissette

Rennae Stubbs observed that Iga Swiatek gets stressed often during matches and she wanted Tomasz Wiktorowski to make things easier for the youngster instead of being too strict. This is why Stubbs thinks the five-time Grand Slam champion made the right decision by hiring Wim Fissette.

I thought Tomasz was very dour. I was like dude, you have to make life better or find some joy on the tennis court or working with Iga because Iga clearly when she is out on the court gets very stressed and all the things you see, you have to be able to monitor that. That’s where I think women coaches can be better in those situations.

Swiatek skipped the Asian swing and hasn’t played a match since her US Open exit. The five titles she won this season are the Qatar Open, Indian Wells, Madrid Open, Rome Open, and the French Open. She also won the bronze medal at the Paris Olympics
