As per some reports, the courts at the Paris Masters were the fastest ones this season and Carlos Alcaraz was one of the players who complained about it. Alcaraz could win just one match in Bercy, his second-round clash with Nicolas Jarry.

The Spaniard then suffered a shock exit when he lost to home favorite and eventual finalist Ugo Humbert in three sets in the third round. Twice during his campaign, he complained about why the organizers prepared those fast courts.

Serena Williams‘ former coach Rennae Stubbs, however, was disappointed with the four-time Grand Slam champion’s inability to adapt to the fast courts.

If you have a fast court, you can come into the net because it’s harder to adjust your position to hit a winning passing shot when you’re getting rushed. So, fast courts indoors, sorry Carlos, you’re going to have to adjust your game.

The 53-year-old also feels that there needs to be surfaces on the tour that reward the players who play quick, as she said ‘89% of the tour’ is played on slow courts. Alcaraz’s next target is to win the ATP Finals in Turin, where the matches will also be played on indoor hard courts.

Rennae Stubbs advises Carlos Alcaraz to follow Rafael Nadal’s approach

Rennae Stubbs wants Carlos Alcaraz to make adjustments to his playing style just like 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal who also struggled on fast indoor hardcourts. The four-time Grand Slam doubles champion pointed out how Nadal adjusted his game on fast Wimbledon courts and, as a result, he ended up winning two titles at SW19 (in 2008 and 2010).

Rafa had to adjust his style of tennis on grass back in the day when the grass was a little bit quicker. It started slowing down, he started standing on the baseline, flattening out his forehand, flattening out his serve. Because he knew ‘If I want to win Wimbledon, I have to play on the grass’ speed’. And he won Wimbledon!

Alcaraz will come to Turin as World No. 3 and could face World No.1 Jannik Sinner. The 21-year-old, who is 52–11 on the season, will also be bidding for his fifth ATP title after his win at the Indian Wells, French Open, Wimbledon Championships, and the China Open.
