A lot has been said, and a lot will be said about the Battle of the Sexes that was held on Sunday (December 28) in Dubai. As expected, Aryna Sabalenka lost the match to Nick Kyrgios 6-3, 6-3, but not before displaying a great fighting spirit.

In the aftermath of the match, critics continued to reiterate that the exhibition event did nothing to elevate women’s tennis. Some argued that Kyrgios’ victory was considered the victory of misogyny because of the Aussie’s past conduct.

Serena Williams’ former coach, Rennae Stubbs, also censured the event, questioning the need to host a man versus woman clash at a time like this. Following the event, the former Grand Slam doubles champion revealed she chose not to watch the clash.

Didn’t watch 1 point of #BOS But judging by my 5 min on social media, the nonsense being written by people about it is the reason it was a event. Misogynists out in droves, people going after the trans community in women’s sports (fyi look up Renee Richards) & for what? $$$$.

Kyrgios, even though he is No.671 on the rankings table, is not at all a mediocre player. When he was at his best, he had the ability to defeat the Big 3, even registering multiple victories over Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal in the biggest stages. Which is why Stubbs pointed out that it’s impossible for even a top women’s player to defeat someone like the 30-year-old.

Let’s just call it was it was, shall we. It was a money grab for both players; their management group. Entertaining? U decide. Important? No. No top woman can compete with a good male player, it’s NOT PHYSICALLY POSSIBLE! But $$$ got got! So i hope it was worth it.

In official events this year, Kyrgios won just one match – against Mackenzie McDonald in the first round of the Miami Open. His last match of the season was in doubles at the Citi Open, where he played alongside Gael Monfils.

Kyrgios made his comeback to the tour after 18 months at the Brisbane International this year. He has received the wild card for next year’s Brisbane International.

Patrick Mouratoglou calls Aryna Sabalenka-Coco Gauff’s Roland Garros match the best Major final of the season

Serena Williams’ former coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, has opinions about almost everything that happens in the tennis world, and he never shies away from sharing them in interviews and on his social media. Recently, Naomi Osaka‘s former coach picked the match he considers the best Grand Slam final on the women’s side, and it was none other than the Roland Garros title clash between Coco Gauff and Aryna Sabalenka.

The two finals at Roland Garros this year were the best of all the tournaments, for sure. That’s what we like in tennis. The first set was over-dominated by Aryna. You watched the first set, and you think she is going to win in straight sets, easily. Slowly, because of Coco’s incredible mindset and incredible defensive skills, she was able to slowly come back and start to make Aryna overthink. This is what happens in tennis.

Gauff came from a set down to win her career’s second Grand Slam singles title. Prior to this year, she also made the French Open final back in 2022 but failed to go past the now four-time Roland Garros champion Iga Swiatek.

For Sabalenka, it was the second time this season that she failed to win a Major despite reaching the final. At the Australian Open, she was chasing a three-peat, but she failed to go past Madison Keys in the final.
