Gautam Gambhir and his coaching staff are under tremendous pressure after India suffered a 3-0 humiliating whitewash at home in the recent Test series against New Zealand. As per reports from Dainik Jagran, the Board Of Cricket Control In India (BCCI) will look to appoint separate coaching staff for white ball and red ball teams if India go on to lose the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) in Australia badly.

With India’s loss in the home series against the Kiwis, their dominance in Test series on home soil was over. India had not lost a single Test series at home since 2012 up until the series against the Black Caps. Also, it was the first time that Team India got whitewashed at home in a Test series.

So, it definitely called for serious repercussions as Gambhir, Rohit Sharma, Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah and BCCI President Roger Binny had a serious meeting recently. The report went on to state that VVS Laxman might become the head coach of the red-ball team and Gambhir might continue as the white-ball head coach if Sharma’s men lose the BGT 2024/25 very badly.

Gautam Gambhir is under tremendous pressure

Under Gambhir, India lost the ODI series in Sri Lanka by a margin of 2-0 and it was the first time that the Island nation managed to win an ODI series against the Men In Blue since 1997. Now, with the whitewash in the home Test series against Kiwis, India’s path to qualify for the WTC final has become tougher as they now need to win four out of the five Test matches against Australia Down Under.

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy will kickstart from November 22 with the first match being held in Perth. The caravan will next move to Adelaide for a day-night pink ball Test followed by Brisbane, Melbourne and then Sydney. The Indian captain might miss the first Test due to personal reasons and hence Jasprit Bumrah might step in as the captain in his absence.

From the time Gambhir took over as the Head Coach of the team from Rahul Dravid after the T20 World Cup 2024 win, India whitewashed Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka 3-0 in the T20I series and then lost the ODI series 2-0. Then they whitewashed Bangladesh in the Test series at home by 2-0 and then the T20I series by 3-0. After that, they suffered a 3-0 whitewash at home against New Zealand.

Currently, India are playing a four-match T20I series in South Africa and they are leading the series 1-0. Laxman is serving as the head coach in Gambhir’s absence who is preparing for the BGT.
