Recent reports have revealed that Virat Kohli is interested and set to return as the captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the upcoming IPL 2025. He is set to replace Faf du Plessis who was the skipper of the side in the previous three seasons from 2022 to 2024.

Times Of India (TOI) reports that Kohli has requested the management of the franchise that he wants to lead the side. He wants to take over from du Plessis who led the side sensationally well in the last three seasons with two playoff qualifications. However, du Plessis is already 40 years old and hence RCB wants to move on from him.

Kohli was the captain of the side from 2013 to 2021. The team from Bengaluru reached the playoffs on four occasions. After the 2021 season, Kohli stepped down from captaincy citing workload issues. However, currently, he is not the captain of the Indian Cricket Team and also retired from T20I format after the T20 World Cup 2024 win, which has considerably reduced his commitments.

With Kohli possibly back as the captain, they won’t have to search for a new skipper in the upcoming auction and instead focus on building their new team.

The former Indian captain will give them confidence while leading the side and will have new energy to win the first IPL trophy for the team. Kohli scored 741 runs from 15 matches at a 61.75 average, winning the orange cap in 2024.
