Miami Dolphins star wide receiver Tyreek Hill is still trying to figure out what his next step will be. Hill is currently in rehab after undergoing surgery on his left knee.
Hill wanted to turn over a new leaf ahead of the 2025 season by casting away the ghosts of 2024. After playing postseason football in back-to-back years, the Dolphins took a step back during Hill’s third year in Miami.
With quarterback Tua Tagovailoa in concussion protocol, the Dolphins shuffled through several different options. However, none of them delivered positive results. Tua wasn’t the same when he returned, and the Dolphins missed out on the playoffs.
Despite threatening to leave the team in the summer, Hill stuck around and even signed a new contract. The Dolphins began the current campaign with three straight defeats before registering a win over the New York Jets in week four.
Unfortunately, the win was overshadowed by Hill’s gruesome knee injury, which ended his season. Speaking with former Dolphins teammate Terron Armstead on his podcast, The Set With T. Stead, Hill revealed that he plans to discuss with his family members the possibility of retiring from football.
At the end of the day, I feel like that decision is based upon how I feel and where my mindset is at the moment. I’m happy with the career that I’ve had. I love playing football. I love [playing] it, but it takes a lot. It takes a lot on you mentally, it takes a lot on you physically. I’m at the point now where I need to have a conversation with mom, family, everybody. Wherever my mind is at the time, the decision will be made, but I know right now, I haven’t had time to live in the moment.

How did Tyreek Hill injure his knee?
The Dolphins led the Jets 10-0 through a field goal from Riley Patterson and a touchdown catch from tight end Darren Waller. Tagovailoa distributed the ball similar to the way the pre-concussion era Tua would.

Hill caught five passes in between the Dolphins’ scoring drives. However, his sixth catch spelled the end of his campaign. After receiving a pass from his quarterback, Hill smartly went out of bounds to stop the clock. The Jets defender Malachi Moore tailed the All-Pro wideout and aligator rolled him to the ground.
The outcome was very graphic. Hill’s left leg hung sideways from his knee. The medical team did not waste any time and transferred him to a local hospital.
Reports from the doctors revealed that Hill had dislocated his left knee and multiple torn ligaments, including the ACL. He underwent surgery to repair the damaged leg. Hill’s season ended with 21 receptions for 265 yards and 1 touchdown.
Tyreek Hill was drafted in the fifth round by the Kansas City Chiefs, where he won his first and only Super Bowl ring before moving to the Dolphins in 2022. If Hill does end up retiring from football, then his NFL journey would end with 819 receptions for 11,363 yards and 83 touchdowns. He has also returned 106 times for 1439 yards and scored 5 touchdowns.
