Former Bills head coach Rex Ryan has no doubt that quarterback Josh Allen is the best player in the NFL because he brings all the party tricks to the table.

Josh Allen’s phenomenal season reached new heights on Sunday when he led the Buffalo Bills to a comfortable 10-35 win against the 2023 Super Bowl finalists, the San Francisco 49ers. The Bills became the second team (besides the Kansas City Chiefs) to qualify for the playoffs with five games to spare.

Allen showcased a quarterback masterclass, re-igniting the MVP chants. Rex Ryan, who used to manage the Bills back in the day, didn’t shy away from praising the 28-year-old for blowing out the 49ers. From his point of view, Allen cemented himself as the best quarterback in the NFL.

He’s the best player, and that’s it. He’s impossible to defend in the red zone.

Rex Ryan said during Monday’s edition of First Take on ESPN

Ryan’s support for Allen was out of the blue because colleagues Damien Woody and Mike Greenberg spoke in favor of Eagles star running back Saquon Barkley for the MVP.

Their argument has merit because Barkley leads the league in rushing with 1499 yards after twelve games. However, Ryan argued that Allen brings a very different sort of dynamic to the game that no player does, considering the conditions in Buffalo.

When he runs the ball, he’s an absolute freak… By the way, look at those conditions he plays in. No one can play in those conditions except Josh Allen.

Rex Ryan said

During the 49ers fixture, Buffalo witnessed extreme weather conditions, but Allen still produced a memorable night. He scored passing, rushing, and a receiving touchdown to shock the entire league.

Josh Allen leads the current NFL MVP race

The reason Allen is in the race is because of his breathtaking numbers. He has 27 combined touchdowns and just seven turnovers with five game-winning drives. The key detail most forget is that after losing his No. 1 receiver in the summer.

All-Pro Stefon Diggs left to join the Houston Texans, and many believed it would affect Allen’s number, but that isn’t the case. He has a 64.6% completion rate and a QBR of 100.3 while averaging 224.3 yards per game.

According to NFL.com’s predictions, Allen has a -210 chance of becoming the 2024/25 NFL MVP. Only a late-season meltdown from the Bills will dislodge him from the top.
