Despite how his time ended with the New York Jets, former head coach Rex Ryan is all in to return to NFL again with the team that used to be his.

The Jets have been playing with an interim head coach since firing Robert Saleh in the early days of October. As the season has finally concluded for them, the first task in hand is hiring a good head coach to make sure the team’s longest postseason drought of professional American sports does not elongate to 15 years.

New York’s former head coach Rex Ryan is among the names scheduled for an interview with the team, but when asked about his chances to land the job after the upcoming interview on Tuesday, he seemed rather affirmative. He argued that he has a deep connection with the Jets since he has already coached them.

100%, absolutely I do. And the reason I think I’m going to get it is because I’m the best guy, and it ain’t close. The thing that you have to do, you have to connect with a football team. You have to connect with your fan base and the way they play.

Ryan told ESPN New York about his chances to get the job on Tuesday.

Additionally, the sports analyst also pitched himself as a “better candidate” than Ben Johnson, who’s also scheduled for an interview with the Jets, and known to have handsome chances of landing the job.

Rex Ryan calls out Aaron Rodgers, planning to transform Jets’ culture

Speaking of returning to the Jets, Ryan took a sharp dig at the veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers under whom the Jets posted two of the poorest seasons. He shared his vivid plans to change the atmosphere within the organization, or “country club” in his words, created by veteran quarterback.

If he comes back, things would be different. If he’s back, it ain’t gonna be the country club, show up whenever the hell you want to show up. That ain’t gonna happen. I’ll just leave it at that.

Ryan said during his appearance on DiPietro & Rothenberg Show

The ESPN analyst condemned the four-time NFL MVP for skipping the mandatory minicamp for a trip to Egypt, especially after returning from a serious injury.

He wants to change the entire atmosphere of the Jets, which has been largely about Rodgers, and shift the focus back to the team to bring actual results and not make headlines for all the wrong reasons.
