WWE has, at times, used real-life elements in its on-screen storylines to augment fan interest. But this approach has always been a double-edged sword. It can be perfectly deduced with a recent example of the WrestleMania feud between Charlotte Flair and Tiffany Stratton that went haywire from a single promo. The former 14-time World Champion’s father, Ric Flair, was recently asked about it.
‘The Nature Boy’ was on Ariel Helwani’s show, where the host asked the WWE Hall of Famer about his daughter’s current standing in the company. ‘The Space Mountain’ declared that Flair’s pairing with Alexa Bliss is the best thing going on in WWE right now. Helwani concurred but segued into something he didn’t like, which was the infamous Flair/Stratton war of words on a SmackDown taping in Chicago.
That was the cheapest shot I’ve ever heard in my life. It was hurtful, and if it was a shoot, that’s even worse. That’s not something to joke about.

Flair said that he was embarrassed for his daughter and even affirmed that the divorce jab from Stratton was the worst cheap shot he’s ever heard in his life. The famed combat sports journalist then asked the 16-time world title holder whether he knew for a fact if it was a shoot or not. To this, Flair said that he wasn’t sure. But the latter added that if it were a shoot, then it’s even worse.

The aforementioned segment between Flair and Stratton went completely off the rails on live television. After the reigning women’s champion reminded her nemesis about the number of failed marriages she’s had, ‘The Nature Girl’ retorted by claiming that Stratton’s boyfriend, Ludwig Kaiser, was rolling into her DMs.
How did Charlotte Flair reflect on that infamous segment with Tiffany Stratton?
Although it took her a while, Charlotte Flair mustered up the courage to talk about the promo that saw her marital status being mocked in front of thousands in attendance and millions watching at home. In her Players Tribune piece, the North Carolina native noted that the divorce taunt from Tiffany Stratton legitimately rocked her.

Flair clarified that she doesn’t want anyone to think that she was a step ahead in that moment. Her reaction to being called out for failing another marriage was not something she had prepared for, and it came off as real as it could have. The 39-year-old said she wasn’t expecting something along those lines, as Charlotte, the character, had never been divorced. In fact, it was the real-life Ashley that went through that pain.

‘The Queen’ was devastated to see an entire arena of fans cheering over her personal life being a mess. That was indeed one of the most challenging phases she must’ve gone through in her entire WWE career. To lean into the negative crowd reactions for Flair, WWE turned her into a heel just days before her WrestleMania showdown with ‘The Buff Barbie’. At the Showcase of the Immortals, the young gun proved too tenacious for the veteran to get past.
Charlotte Flair has a shot at glory at SummerSlam?
This Saturday, a redeemed Charlotte Flair will have her tag team partner Alexa Bliss up against Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez at SummerSlam. The Flair/Bliss pairing will look to take the women’s tag team titles off the Judgment Day members.

‘The Queen’ has been getting babyface-esque reactions from the crowd in recent weeks since her alliance with ‘Little Miss Bliss‘ came into existence. While Flair and Bliss haven’t explicitly shown their support for each other thus far, the slow burn has certainly been helping the cause for both.
The WWE Universe is patiently waiting for the moment these women will finally embrace each other with a potential hug-out in the cards. One would imagine that might happen as early as SummerSlam if Flair and Bliss end up becoming the new women’s tag team champions.
