When he kicked off his retirement tour on the debut episode of Raw Netflix, John Cena made it very clear that his ultimate goal to close off his career would be winning a 17th world title. This would help him break Ric Flair‘s record for the most number of world title victories. However, the 76-year-old doesn’t seem to be fully on board with this idea.
Ric Flair posted a photo of himself alongside Cena on X. He said that WWE claims that The Nature Boy won his 16th and last world championship 25 years ago. Of course, the Hall of Famer himself claims that his world title victories are much greater in number. However, the company doesn’t recognize most of his reigns.
Flair mentioned how he had faced some of the greatest wrestlers ever during his reigns as world champion. The list included names such as Dusty Rhodes, Bret Hart, and The Undertaker. He even claimed that no one could match the schedule he used to have in 1984.
While he had a lot of respect for Cena, he was not going to let him become a 17x World Champion. He was going to stop him even if it meant him having to stop taking his blood thinners to be able to get back in the ring.
Let’s Get Serious! @JohnCena, I Love You And Respect You, But You Ain’t Taking Nothing From @CodyRhodes!

It’s Been 25 Years Since I Won My Last, 16th World Championship, According To The @WWE. Blood, Sweat, And Tears! John Cena won his 16th World Championship all the way back in 2017 at the Royal Rumble. For over eight years now, fans have been waiting for the wrestling legend to finally break the record for the most number of title wins. In the past, Flair stated that although the 2x Royal Rumble winner was not a bad choice to break his record, he would, of course, prefer his own daughter, Charlotte Flair, to be the one to do it.
Vince Russo believes that John Cena may not retire after this year
Fans are now two months into the John Cena retirement tour, and things have now elevated to the next level. Although the Hollywood superstar has not been on TV as much as fans liked, Elimination Chamber more than made up for it. However, WWE made the bold move of turning the Cenation leader into a heel during his final year as a professional wrestler.

Speaking on Legion of Raw, Vince Russo said that this may not end up being Cena’s retirement year after all. Although he doesn’t fully believe that it is a swerve, the 47-year-old could easily say that he was lying. This would also give him a lot of heat with the crowd.
If he’s a heel, he could not retire, you know what I mean? I mean, that could be part of ‘I lied’ and this, that, and other things… I mean, that would give him a ton of heat.

After all, Cena has used his retirement as a reason to get what he wants in the past. During the Royal Rumble post-show press conference, he said that it would be best for business if he main-events WrestleMania during the final year of his career and goes on to become a 17x World Champion. Using this justification, he announced himself for the Men’s Elimination Chamber without going through a qualifying match.
