With Patrick Mahomes sidelined for an extended period, the Kansas City Chiefs have reached a juncture where they could be in deep discussions about their immediate and long-term future. Those discussions had probably already started after their struggles, particularly on the offensive side of the ball, showed their ugly side this season.
Concerns about Travis Kelce‘s future may have been one of the top discussion points, but the offensive line and receiving core either needed further development, or a complete rebuild.
Even if the Chiefs were not thinking about all those aspects, Patrick Mahomes’ season-ending injury certainly threw a wrench in their plans for next season.
On top of that, the franchise will miss the playoffs for the first time since 2014. On that note, longtime analyst and host Rich Eisen believes the Chiefs will be missed.
With the Chiefs not making the playoffs 1st time in the Mahomes era, you’re going to miss them… You’re gonna miss the buzz… The league is more fun when the Chiefs are good.
Rich Eisen said on his namesake show
The 56-year-old understands that many despise the Chiefs. But he also knows that they will come to realize that the NFL is better if the Mahomes and Andy Reid-led team is in the postseason.
"You're going to miss [the Chiefs in the playoffs] … The league is more fun when the Chiefs are good. … I can't wait to see how they're going to come back and make it happen again."

Eisen believes there is a certain ‘juice’ that the franchise and its superstar QB bring, which will not be present no matter who takes their place until they return.
Marcus Spears believes Patrick Mahomes’ presence can help Chiefs continue postseason success
While talking about the Chiefs missing the playoffs, Rich Eisen did mention that he wants to see how they rebuild their way back to the playoffs. His ESPN colleague, Marcus Spears, believes Patrick Mahomes will lead them back.

The dynasty is over, but the window is open, always, with No. 15.
Marcus Spears said on NFL Live
The former defensive tackle made it clear that as long as the Texas Tech alum is leading the line, the franchise will continue to be a postseason threat. This dynasty might be over, but with Mahomes, they can create a new one.

On the other hand, Spears also took the opportunity to point out how the Chiefs’ mistakes may have played a part in their QB tearing the ACL in his left knee. With their offensive line struggles, Patrick Mahomes has had to run around a lot more than he has in the past, and since that continued, the strain led his knee to eventually give out.
Marcus Spears hopes the franchise takes this opportunity to retool his protection, while also looking at receivers who can get open, as that also has been a problem this season.
Patrick Mahomes visited Cowboys’ head team physician
Every NFL franchise employs a top-tier team of medical experts, physicians, and trainers to ensure its players have the best care at their disposal. After all, the organizations are investing millions in them.
But then there are some who are better than the rest. According to FOX4 Sports’ Taylor Burr, Patrick Mahomes sought the opinion of Dr. Daniel Cooper, the head team physician for the Dallas Cowboys.
Mahomes is seeking a second opinion from Dr. Daniel Cooper, head team physician for the Cowboys and a leading expert in complex knee and shoulder injuries.

As an expert in complex knee and shoulder injuries, he ended up looking into any additional damage, such as that suffered by former Chiefs’ wideout Tyreek Hill. But thankfully, the star quarterback came out clean and only had to undergo surgery for his torn ACL.

Patrick Mahomes successfully underwent surgery in Dallas this evening with Dr. Dan Cooper to repair the tear in his left ACL. Mahomes will begin his rehab process immediately.
The Chiefs announced that Dr. Cooper successfully operated on Mahomes’ left knee, which leaves the 3-time Super Bowl MVP on his path to rehabilitation and complete a recovery with next season in mind.
