Rich Paul batted firmly for his childhood friend and client LeBron James on a SiriusXM radio show recently.

Hate him or love him, LeBron James is the biggest needle mover in the NBA economy. The Lakers star always acts like he knows his self-worth and his pull in the industry. After all, being the face of the league in one way or another throughout his NBA career has been hugely illustrative for the man worth $1.2 billion before his retirement from pro sports. He is quite savvy at how he deals with the media, and always has been.
To LeBron James’ credit, he has canceled out the background noise as admirably as anyone we’ve seen in sports. Modern media loves to pile on one guy and attribute blame on him for trends in his sport. It has happened to Cristiano Ronaldo on a bigger level throughout his career, and James is a similar soft target. His agent Rich Paul never misses an opportunity to point out how polarizing and hated LeBron James has been.
Speaking on a new interview appearance on SiriusXM radio, Rich Paul provided an update on how his camp is working to find a way away from the Lakers for James. James was present at Las Vegas Summer League action over the weekend, but declined to comment on the rumors about him demanding a move away from the Lakers after opting in to his $52.6 million player option with the team in late June.
Rich Paul, meanwhile, cried foul about how James has been treated negatively by people in the media for the bulk of his career. He characterized his client and good friend as a victim of sports hate from media and from the fans:
There’s so many voices in today’s game and around today’s game and media and things like that. And everyone has a job to do. For us, hey, let those people do their job. It’s not for us to rebuttal or to try to give clarity on what’s said, what’s not said. That’s not the focus…When LeBron retires, they’ll have to find a new boogeyman to hate on just to chase likes and boost ratings.

NBA fans don’t quite agree with Rich Paul on LeBron James being cast as a media boogeyman
Whatever Rich Paul may say to rewrite history, there is little doubt that James has been more of a beneficiary than a victim of all the media coverage surrounding him. It has allowed him to build an off the court brand for himself. The increased exposure has also allowed him to foray into other business ventures and run his own media and entertainment companies, which are platformed by these media houses.

Above all, despite his credentials not necessarily belonging in the upper echelon of NBA legends, he has leapfrogged a lot of players into a consensus media top-2 player of all time. None of this was left unsaid by NBA fans, who took to tweeting their opinion on how Rich Paul has been handling James’ trade request:
LeBron hasn’t been the boogeyman to hate on just to chase likes and boost ratings since his Miami days. If anything, since 2015 he’s been the most protected and coddled superstar in the league

Well hopefully the next so called 🥴 insecure boogeyman actually has a game that's not stiff & raggedy looking and he's not a media manufactured fraud who needs paid media to uptalk him bcoz his game is not good enough to pass the basketball eye tests on it's own..😆 https://t.co/rc1ZRKNdHB

only ESPN and FS1 talk about him, EVERYONE else has moved on
Bruv just can’t accept he ain’t Kobe or MJ
I promise you, NBA will thrive without him
My proof? Game 7 of nba finals that didn’t feature any “MEGA SUPERSTAR” https://t.co/LgnuavcGlL
LeBron practically owns the "media" and most are busy lying about how he's the GOAT. Spare me this victim BS. https://t.co/Ohj11ayT16

The general public has had enough of James’ passive-aggressive treatment of his front offices, his disregard for long-term planning and his penchant for viewing his teammates as people who could easily be replaced (and often are).
