- Rich Paul defends the sideline exchange between Luka Doncic and JJ Redick, calling it a sign of a healthy relationship.
- Critics question JJ Redick's coaching style, citing over-reliance on isolation plays with Doncic.
- Former player Al Harrington notes that locker room tensions are common, but the current Lakers team lacks championship energy.
When the Los Angeles Lakers struggled to win three games in a row, most of the blame was placed on leading superstar Luka Doncic, while some was placed on head coach JJ Redick.
While the latter was questioned about his ability to coach the Lakers, especially because he was allowing the Slovenian to keep the ball to himself for much of the game, the rest of the players were left to be bystanders.
Many felt that history had given enough evidence that this was not the way basketball games were won. Therefore, Redick should stop this dependence on isolation plays and move back to what made the team competitive.
Amid this criticism, what fans, the media, and former players were not ready for was when Luka Doncic apparently had a tense moment with JJ Redick on his way to the Lakers’ bench.
When things happen in such a media-robust environment, we’re looking for the drama of it all. The reality of it is, these guys are getting paid a lot of money to do a high-level job. The fact that there’s care shown, passion shown, and a competitive nature shown, I think that’s healthy.

The super agent believes that such tense moments might seem dramatic enough for many to criticize the apparent disrespect from the guard towards his head coach, but in reality, they are working towards a common goal. Hence, such moments are healthy.
Luka Doncic’s moment with JJ Redick proves dissent within Lakers, says former player
That ‘tense’ moment between Luka Doncic and JJ Redick has gone viral, with many dissecting every movement to analyze what is going on inside the locker room.
After first noticing how the 6’8″ star first daps up LeBron James as he starts his walk off the court. Then, as he reaches the bench, his head coach tries to dap Doncic, but the former Real Madrid star just pulls his hand away.

Later, as Redick tries to explain to him something, the six-time All-Star does listen. Eventually, when his coach and former teammate is about to finish, Doncic extends his hand out to finally dap Redick. But instead, the second-year coach walks away fuming.
With the Lakers, just from the beginning, it just hasn’t been one of championship energy, vibes.

The 16-year veteran reiterated that locker-room tensions are normal in any franchise. Even the best of them have it. But with this edition of the Los Angeles Lakers, something seems off to him. Al Harrington is not sure if it is similar to championship teams from the past.
Bill Simmons questions if Luka Doncic is on the decline
Whenever one is attached to the Lakers, championships are part and parcel of their daily conversations. However, to get there, the team’s leading superstar must be at his best. After eight years in the league, Bill Simmons wonders if Luka Doncic has declined:

He’s only had one third-place finish and one fourth-place finish… If I had told you this during his rookie year, as we watched how good he was… would you ever have guessed this?
Bill Simmons asked his co-host Zach Lowe
Zach Lowe agreed that it has been surprising that the guard has not been able to come close to winning a regular-season MVP, even though he was mostly a preseason favorite. Even his production this year has not made him a favorite this season.

Then Simmons pointed out that before the NBA entered the 2020s, almost everyone expected Doncic to be the league’s dominant superstar. But it has not panned out, leaving him seemingly questioning if the Lakers star has declined.
