The 2024 NASCAR Cup season will always remember for the drama over the 2025-2031 charter negotiations. Teams didn’t get the “fair deal” they expected and was even given an ultimatum to sign the deal. This resulted in 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports suing NASCAR alleging monopoly. So far, the teams have gained upper hand, winning three injunction lawsuits.

Recently NASCAR Hall of Famer Richard Childress, shared his feelings about the drama around the lawsuit on his latest appearance in the Dale Jr. Download podcast hosted by Dale Earnhardt Jr. He recalled how they had just hours to smile the new deal and how they signed it, as there was no option for him. He believes 23XI-FRM duo had a reason to sign the agreement.

They [23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports] had a reason to not sign the agreement. We received it hours before and we had a deadline to sign it.

Richard Childress said via Dale Jr. Download podcast.

He pointed out that the charter deal had only three or four things missing, but was forced to sign it without further negotiations. Childress asserted that he believes he is glad to see 23XI and FRM standing up for what they felt is right.

There [were] only three or four things that we were missing on that everyone was still trying to negotiate. And when those negotiations [were] over, these two guys went on their own, which I’m glad to see them do it because they stood up for what they felt [were] right.

Richard Childress added.

Richard Childress expects a positive outcome in the lawsuit drama

Further talking about the point, Richard Childress explained that he thinks the lawsuit is going end up working out as the what the teams were demanding wasn’t going to cost NASCAR anything. 23XI-FRM allegiance is asking for the fair deal everyone in the garage wanted.

Richard Childress

I think it’ll end up working out…What we were asking for wasn’t [going to] cost NASCAR nothing… All we wanted was to be treated fair, and that’s all these two guys are asking for now.

Richard Childress said.

The comment from Childress proves the lawsuit is more about NASCAR wanting to exert more control over the team than revenue sharing model. It would be interesting to see how the whole lawsuit saga is going to playout and how long it will take for both parties to settle outside the court.
