One of the most controversial moments from the 23XI-FRM charter lawsuit trail was the insulting chats of NASCAR officials getting exposed. Ex-Commissioner of the sport Steve Phelps called RCR owner Richard Childress a stupid redneck. The drama and other factors during the lawsuit following the chat leak resulted in the senior official giving his resignation.
Recently the Hall of Fame team owner has finally shared his thoughts on the situation and highlighted how he has spoken with the France family over how to move on to make the sport stronger. He also made an hilarious comment regarding the personal damages he incurred because of the chat leaks.
I’ve spoken to the France family, and my goal now is to try to help them and try to help everyone come together and build a stronger NASCAR sport. As far as the personal damages that came to me, if I tell you what I think now you’ll probably be bleeping me out.
Richard Childress told FOX8 Sports’s Chris Weaver.
Further talking about the point, Richard Childress pointed out that he asserted that he would make sure that the personal attack targeting him won’t continue. The veteran also asserted that he will not be forgetting the insults anytime soon, which can be considered as a warning for the new restructured stock car racing leadership.
So, that is still to be carried on into the future, the personal attacks against me. I still — I’m like an old elephant, you don’t forget.
Richard Childress added.
Richard Childress refused to say everything on his mind on the chaos
In the same conversation he highlighted how he would have felt if the insult came from a NASCAR fans. He pointed out that if a passionate race fan called him a redneck he would wear it as an honor, but Phelps crossed the line with the texts.

I think the race fans get me fired up and they keep me excited. The race fans — one of them guys called me a redneck — that’s a bad job. I honorably wear it. I got a lot of race fans that are good ol’ solid rednecks and you can’t forget what built the sport was the people back in the day standing up there having a beer on top of their car, cheering and screaming and hollering.
Richard Childress said.
Further talking about the point, the veteran racer pointed out that the sport leadership should be concerned about both the legacy fans as well as the new fans, while discussing its future. He also joked about not speaking his mind about the insult, as he wont able to convey his feelings without using curse words.
You can’t forget the young fans coming in, we gotta have them to keep the sport going. But I better not say what’s on my mind. I was thinking last night if someone asked me, how would I answer and not get bleeped a lot.
Richard Childress asserted.
The comments from the legendary NASCAR figure seems rational and on point. The leadership needs to take an initiative to end the negativity around the comments and get the respect of the RCR owners as well as the legacy fans back.
