Richard Sherman watched the Philadelphia Eagles lose their second game in five days. First Nick Sirianni‘s team lost away in Dallas and then suffered a nine-point defeat against the Chicago Bears headed by a rookie head coach, Ben Johnson.
Even though AJ Brown looked like a fantasy football darling in both games, the offense struggled to rack up points. It was a rough game against the Bears, with quarterback Jalen Hurts completing only 55% of his passes for under 250 yards, throwing 2 touchdowns, 1 interception, and losing a fumble on a failed tush push attempt.
Last year’s offensive player of the year, Saquon Barkley, once again failed to make an impact, logging just 56 yards on 13 carries (has only crossed 100 yards in a game once all season).
The defense also gave up 250+ yards on the ground to the Bears. Former Eagle D’Andre Swift had 18 carries for 125 yards and 1 score, while seventh-round rookie Kyle Monangai rushed 130 yards and scored one touchdown from 22 carries.
All of that accumulated in a 24-15 defeat for the Eagles. They remained top of the NFC East with an 8-4 record, but Super Bowl-winning cornerback Richard Sherman sounded the alarm bells with five games remaining.
Sherman noted that Sirianni should make changes in the coaching ranks, starting with replacing offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo. Speaking on the Amazon Prime halftime show, Sherman said,
Offensively, you gotta find something else! You gotta put your glasses on, [Nick] Sirianni, and maybe get your wand out and find you a new offensive coordinator. Because right now [Kevin] Patullo does not have the answers. He’s shown incompetency over the last couple games. You gotta change that, baby. You need a little Wingardium Leviosa.

The Harry Potter reference aside, the Eagles do need to make some kind of change if they wish to grab the NFC number one seed over the Los Angeles Rams. It’s actually astonishing to see a reigning Super Bowl champion just fizzle out at the business end of the year when just a year ago they would have blown past the competition.
Will Nick Sirianni take over offensive play-calling duty?
The Eagles aren’t in any kind of trouble just yet. They have a fairly easy schedule remaining, with games against the Chargers, Bills, Raiders, and the Commanders (twice). The only teams that could cause any issues are the Chargers, who the Eagles play next, and the 7-4 Bills.

So, should Sirianni and the Eagles brass make some changes among the coaching ranks? Perhaps Sirianni is taking over the offensive play-calling duties?
The Eagles fans were spoiled by Kellen Moore‘s innovative plays last year so much that they can’t stand Patullo’s unconventional and conservative approach on the offense. Will Siriani be any better? The Eagles fans won’t know anytime soon because Patullo is here and is staying as the OC.
We will evaluate everything. We have to do it collectively. They outcoached us. They outplayed us… [And] We’re not changing the play caller.

“No, we're not changing the play-caller. We'll evaluate, obviously, everything. But like I said to you guys, when you win, when you lose, it's never about one person.

That’s that for the Eagles. Look on the bright side, the Chargers weren’t as great as they’re advertised. Justin Herbert has looked good in patches while rubbing shoulders with Raiders’ Geno Smith at the top of the interception chart.
However, Hurts lost his last and only bout against Herbert. In 2021, the Chargers traveled to Lincoln Financial Field and sneaked in a 27-24 victory over the Eagles. Herbert completed 84% of his passes (32 completions) for 356 yards and 2 touchdowns, while Hurts just had 11 for 162 yards and 1 touchdown.
