Richard Sherman lost his cool on the New Orleans Saints players during halftime of Thursday night’s primetime game. The former NFL defensive back accused Saints players of sabotaging head coach Dennis Allen’s game plan.

The Saints, after a terrible half of football, trailed by 16-3 at halftime. Sherman was livid with the players, especially at the lack of effort they put in.

I’m telling you, Tony [Gonzalez], I’m confused, I’m vexed, [and] I’m perplexed, [because] I don’t get it. These are good players. They don’t want to tackle, they don’t want to make plays… I don’t understand this; it seems like they want to get their coach [Dennis Allen] fired; that’s the effort they’re playing with.

Richard Sherman said

He mainly criticized veteran safety Tyrann Mathieu for dropping an easy interception. If Matthieu had held onto the ball, then he could have snagged the 36th pick of his career.

And Dennis Allen! You call a timeout so we can watch your quarterback take a knee? Do you want to torture these fans? They’re going to be waiting at his car after the game.

Richard Sherman added

From a fan’s point of view, it appeared a lapse of judgment and just bad timing, but Sherman pointed out it was because his head was not in the game. There were several other mistakes, such as whiffs from linebacker Demario Davis and near sacks from Chase Young.

Allen made his name under current Broncos and former Saints HC Sean Payton as a sound defensive mind. However, they have been awful, to say the least in the last four games. Allen’s team ranks bottom of the league by allowing an average of 395.8 yards per game and 15 touchdowns.

Is Dennis Allen’s job on the line?

Before the start of the season, Sporting News conducted a survey and combined it with win percentage and future predictions to compile a list of the best to worst head coaches in the league. They placed Saints Dennis Allen as the 27th-best coach in the league out of 32.

At one point he was on course to prove everyone wrong when they scored 44 against the Cowboys and were on a two-game win streak at the start of the season. The tables turned very quickly. That was the last time the Saints won a game and are now on a four-game losing streak after the Broncos scored 33 on them.

When asked about whether his job was on the line, the 51-year-old gave a one-word reply. “No.”

The Saints have a 10-day break for the bye week. This is the time to make some moves in order to improve the offense. According to reports, Derek Carr may recover by that time along with Chris Olave, who has to clear the concussion protocol first.
