The 2024 NASCAR Cup season has been filled with controversies over the new charter agreement from the 2025 season to 2031. The France Family gave the teams a supposed “take it or leave it” offer before the Atlanta playoff race and all the teams except 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports, signed it.

But despite signing the deal, the team owners have been very vocal about their distaste. An anonymous team owner even compared NASCAR to a communist regime over the recent drama. Many fans were confused seeing the veteran of the sport, Rick Hendrick and Joe Gibbs, signing the deal amidst all the drama. Now the former has revealed why he inked the deal.

Rick Hendrick admitted that he signed because the negotiations were getting dragged on for a long-time and he was tired.

I was just tired.
Rick Hendrick said as reported by AP.

Being someone one who has fought NASCAR for better deals many years, he knew that there isn’t much left for them to get from the sport for this cycle unlike the newcomers including Michael Jordan‘s 23XI Racing.  He also didn’t want to further involve in the negotiations that often proved to be waste of time and effort. NASCAR’s tactics of dragging the deal out helped them to convince the biggest team owner they have.

Rick Hendrick doesn’t want Kyle Larson to miss Coke 600 for the Indy 500

HMS’s Kyle Larson is set to race in the Indy 500 yet again this season. His double duty attempt in 2024 was ruined by rain, and him missing out on the Coke 600 cost the team the regular season championship. Hendrick doesn’t want the same to happen next season, so has set the priorities for his driver.

So, McLaren has announced that IndyCar legend Tony Kanaan, will be Larson’s mentor as well as his substitute driver in case of an emergency. So, if there is any long delay with the 500, Kyle Larson will immediately return to Charlotte for the NASCAR race.

Kyle Larson and Arrow McLaren will be hoping that weather will not ruin the race for him like they did in 2024 and will expect Larson to produce a solid race. By making Coke 600 the priority, HMS can also calm the fans who were furious with the star driver missing the race lats time.
