The Vancouver Canucks are currently having a mixed run of form. The Pacific Division side is currently fourth in their division standings after suffering a crushing 5-1 loss against the Boston Bruins on Saturday. After the game, head coach Rick Tocchet made a bizarre comment about his players and compared them with the Edmonton Oilers.
The home record of Canucks is one of the biggest worrying signs for them this year. The Canadian outfit has lost 11 games at the Rogers Arena, a place where they lost just 14 times all together in the 2023-24 season.
There seem to be some internal conflicts among the team. After the loss against the Bruins, Tocchet claimed that the players were not “emotionally engaged“.
While he admitted that his players needed to do better, he strangely brought in their Canadian rivals, Oilers, in the conversation. The Canucks HC expressed that the Edmonton-based franchise can have four to five players sleeping and still win games, unlike his side.

This is not the first time Tocchet has made some strange comments after his team’s loss. Last month, he apologized to the fans for another brutal home defeat. He spoke about how the fans are paying $200 to $400 per game and they (Canucks) are throwing out duds.
Rick Tocchet claims Canucks are not ‘panicking’ despite poor home record
The recent homestand of the Vancouver Canucks has not provided the results the team would have hoped for. In 5 games, they have lost three and won two of them. As the team gets ready to end this game six-game homestand after taking on the Colorado Avalanche, Rick Tocchet has claimed that the team is not ‘panicking’.
The 60-year-old expressed his confidence in the team playing together as an identity. He also added that the players are not ready when they get the puck.
“We need a collective group to overcome those things by playing to our team identity…Have to play a team game, not an individual game.”

One positive thing for the Canucks is that star forward J.T. Miller is back. The player returned from his one-month-long absence and has picked up where he left off. He assisted twice in his return against the Florida Panthers before having another assist against the Bruins in their 5-1 defeat.
Following this game against the Avs, the Canucks will have two road games. After that the team will come back to their home and start another homestand, this time a three-game one.
