Rickey Pearsall missed pre-season for the 49ers

Even though the 49ers took Ricky Pearsall very high in the draft, the former Gator struggled in off-season camp, mainly because of a bad shoulder. The 49ers knew about his situation and still went ahead with him perhaps hoping it wasn’t too serious and he could shake it off quickly.

Pearsall eventually joined the 49ers camp but aggravated his shoulder once more. The doctors revealed it was shoulder subluxation. The best-case scenario for the wideout is he manages to make a quick recovery and the worst case is going through surgery and missing a chunk of his debut campaign.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan seemed optimistic about Pearsall re-joining the team soon even after Brandon Aiyuk‘s extension. Shanahan said the 23-year-old’s shoulder is tender, downplaying the severity of the injury.

About 50% of the people coming out of college do that. That wasn't really the problem. He did it in OTAs for the first time with us. When you do that, it's tender. Then he redid it here a couple of weeks ago. It makes it tender, so you want to give him time to come back from it. It's probably happened to 80% of the guys on our team at some time. It's just a pretty normal thing.
Kyle Shanahan said per Sports Illustrated

There was a question mark on how much game time Pearsall would even get with Aiyuk, Jauan Jennings, and Deebo Samuel all locked in. However, the shooting incident may keep him out for a longer period.
