They made it pretty clear that they wanted to head in a different direction with someone that could give them a bit more time and a bit more availability through the off-season, really more than anything to be able to spend a bit more time in India with a lot of the local players. Ponting, however, worked really hard for the Delhi Capitals and created a good atmosphere with the team. However, the only thing missing was the trophy which the team failed to win since the start of the IPL in 2008.

Ricky Ponting won’t take up head coach job of England’s limited overs team

England’s limited overs head coach, Matthew Mott, resigned after some disastrous results of his team. England failed to get past the group stage in the 2023 ODI World Cup in India and lost to India in the semifinal of the 2024 T20 World Cup. Ponting has clearly stated that he does not plan to become the head coach of the England’s limited overs team.

He reasoned that it is not the best time for him to become the head coach of an international team as this would mean staying away from the family most of the time. He thanked the Delhi Capitals franchise and cherished the moments with some of the most experienced and also talented players in the set up. He also wished to become a coach of some other IPL franchise. Ponting wants to share the dressing room with more talented Indian players and take a franchise to victory which he could not do with the Capitals.

Meanwhile, the franchises and the IPL governing council had a meeting regarding the rules and regulations of the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction. BCCI will announce them officially by the end of August.
