A few weeks ago, reports suggested that Ricochet‘s WWE contract would expire in the summer. More importantly, the former Intercontinental Champion gave notice that he wouldn’t be renewing. As such, he was immediately written off from ongoing storylines and television. In the latest update on the situation, WWE has removed the high-flyer from the roster page and moved him to the alumni section of the official website.
As per Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, his contract has not yet expired. However, company sources stated that this was a confirmation that he was leaving as soon as his deal ran out. In the last few weeks of his WWE run, the 35-year-old was involved in a three-way feud involving Bron Breakker and Ilja Dragunov. While it seemed certain that this would culminate in a triple-threat match, Ricochet’s contract situation led to a change in plans.
On the June 10 edition of Raw, the former United States Champion and Breakker engaged in a backstage brawl. This ended with the second-generation wrestler powerslaming Ricochet through a car windshield. Later, the high-flyer was stretchered out of the arena, which would end up being his last WWE appearance.
During his stint in the Stamford-based promotion, Ricochet won championships on both the main roster and NXT. Moreover, he showcased his in-ring skills by putting on several enthralling encounters against the likes of Logan Paul and Dragunov. With that said, it will be interesting to see where the future of The One and Only lies.
Will Ospreay continues to tease future rematch with Ricochet
Back in 2016, Will Ospreay and Ricochet put on an instant classic when they wrestled at The Best of Super Juniors. Since then, fans have clamored for a rematch between the two. Therefore, when rumors of the high-flyer leaving WWE emerged, the AEW International Champion teased a possible showdown with his friend.
While speaking with CBS Sports, Ospreay opined on the possibility of Ricochet joining AEW. The British wrestler claimed that he has always been a huge advocate of the former Intercontinental Champion. Further, he continued to tease a rematch with him and even floated the idea of them teaming up.
Without doubt, Tony Khan will try to acquire the 35-year-old wrestler as soon as his contract expires. In fact, fans are speculating that Ricochet could make his debut for the promotion before the All In pay-per-view in London.
