Over three years ago, a freak accident messed up Big E‘s neck. It happened during a tag team match on SmackDown when Ridge Holland‘s belly-to-back suplex didn’t get the desired result out of the former WWE Champion. Instead, the landing in that spot was so ugly that E couldn’t even move, as if he was paralyzed.

It was later confirmed that he’d suffered a broken neck. Since that moment, a certain section of fans has been badmouthing the British wrestler for what was an unfortunate occurrence and could’ve happened with anyone else as well. It seems like Holland has finally learned to live with trolls as they might never wipe away.

The 36-year-old came across a post on X demanding his WWE release after what he did to Big E, which was inadvertent. The said post also termed Ridge as a walking workplace accident. The former Brawling Brutes member quipped that he’s living rent-free in their head and also that they’re a virgin.

Holland showed glimpses of his upper body strength on the main roster while working alongside Sheamus and Pete Dunne. However, once they broke up as a faction, The Redeemer hasn’t been called back to either Raw or SmackDown. Big E clarified long ago that he has no issues whatsoever with the English grappler.

The real-life Ettore Ewen told ESPN that Ridge reached out to him after the incident and gifted him a packet of red meat as his apology. The former powerhouse of The New Day underscored that what they all signed up for does have its pros and cons, and the spot that sidelined him was unfortunate.

Big E might be done from in-ring competition as he nears his 40s

Big E hasn’t wrestled in over 1000 days, and there’s a good chance he might never do it again. In April 2024, the 39-year-old provided a significant update on the status of his neck. After undergoing numerous scans, he’d reached a point where he was free of pain and discomfort.

Despite having no uneasiness in performing daily activities, why hasn’t he made his in-ring return yet? It’s simply because his C1 vertebra was healing fibrously and couldn’t form a new bone. The doctors wouldn’t clear him until that happened. And, as he wrote in his post on X, he may never be cleared.

However, the multi-time tag team champion is grateful for leading a pain-free life. In his time away from the squared circle, E has transitioned into a broadcasting role with WWE. The fans could often find him analyzing the rivalries as part of the pre-show panels at PLEs. His neck injury was recently mentioned on Raw by Tony Hinchcliffe in a joke that didn’t sit well with the WWE Universe.

Can The New Day make Big E eat his own words at WrestleMania 41?

This Saturday at WrestleMania, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods will challenge Eric and Ivar of The Viking Raiders for the world tag team titles. It’s a golden opportunity for Woods and Kingston to clap back at Big E, who questioned his former teammates’ credibility during an episode of Raw Recap.

Ettore Ewen was asked about Kofi cropping him out of their WrestleMania 35 moment. E responded that no matter how hard they try, The New Day can’t erase his contributions to the faction. The former WWE Champion took a dig at Kingston and Woods’ championship drought since his departure.

As mentioned above, they could turn it around for themselves in Las Vegas by dethroning War Raiders. After the match was made official, WWE’s digital team made an egregious error by listing The Street Profits instead of The New Day in the advertisement of their match on the company’s website. Woods was certainly unhappy about the snub, and so was Kofi.
