Bill Goldberg retired from WWE last weekend after wrestling his longest match since 2003 at Saturday Night’s Main Event. He had a competitive affair with Gunther but couldn’t take the World Heavyweight title off the Austrian. But the incident that eventually dominated the limelight was the SNME broadcast being cut off half a minute into Da Man’s farewell speech.

The former WCW Champion let his frustrations be known during a recent interview with Ariel Helwani, saying he was a little “pi*sed off” about it. Downplaying Goldberg’s notion of the entire situation, Rikishi, speaking on his Off the Top podcast, quipped that ‘The Icon’ could have easily put social media to use if he were to deliver such a lengthy speech. ‘The Samoan Stinker’ asked the 58-year-old to smarten up.

My speech wouldn’t even be that long. I’d just say ‘thank you for coming out. I’ll see you next time….. that’s what they got social media for… You can get on there and get on your own… there’s a thing called Stories, Live, Facebook Live, Twitter Live. You do all the time you want there.

Rikishi put himself in Goldberg’s shoes and said he would’ve kept his address brief and would rather focus on collecting his pay from WWE. The Anoa’i clan member also affirmed that the company was never going to pass up that sponsorship money and wait for Goldberg to finish his extempore.

Goldberg told Helwani that even if it was NBC’s call to go off air with the broadcast, WWE could have planned it out with the network in advance. In the rapid-fire round of his episode, Rikishi went on to concur with the conception of Goldberg being an overrated wrestler. However, the former Too Cool member ultimately congratulated the WCW stalwart for the wrestling career he had.

Goldberg’s accidental spear injured the referee at Saturday Night’s Main Event

As mentioned in the beginning, Goldberg had a full-fledged match against Gunther in Atlanta. They went over 14 minutes on the official clock. The WWE Hall of Famer looked excellent in the ring after a long time, and he didn’t botch any of his maneuvers.

However, in a spot that saw Goldberg inadvertently spearing the match referee, Charles Robinson, the latter ended up with cracked ribs. Robinson made the revelation via Instagram, and the bump that he took did look devastating in real time. Outside of that, Goldberg’s son, Gage, also came into play when Gunther shoved him back from the other side of the barricade.

Gage didn’t back down and was keen on taking the gauntlet to ‘The Ring General’. But the security personnel barged in just at the nick of time. Despite hitting the erstwhile Walter with a spear and the jackhammer, the Vienna-born grappler kicked out. Gunther eventually locked the veteran in a sleeper hold, and that was it. The 37-year-old can now boast about retiring ‘Da Man’ in WWE.

Goldberg did praise his last match opponent during his chat with Ariel Helwani, saying the Austrian made him look good in the ring. The former defensive tackle for the Atlanta Falcons even apologized for laughing off Gunther’s chop. Goldberg asserted that he never intended to downplay the move, but it didn’t hurt him quite like he was expecting, so he broke character.

WWE personality blasts Goldberg over trivial complaints after his retirement

It does seem like Goldberg has piqued a number of industry experts by complaining about his WWE farewell. For that matter, Peter Rosenberg, who works with WWE as an occasional on-screen host, recently slammed the WWE HOF’er for nitpicking that he got cut off while getting some final words in after his match at Saturday Night’s Main Event.

Rosenberg underscored that wrestlers who’ve been the most overbooked in their careers end up being the most discontented ones. The radio DJ added that ‘Da Man’ should know that the show was being broadcast live on NBC, a network that doesn’t overrun shows beyond their allotted timeslots.

Rosenberg also added that there have been a plethora of better wrestlers in history who never got a chance to bow out in such a fashion as Goldberg did. The WWE personality cited Dusty Rhodes as a prime example whose final WWE match was a loss to Randy Orton in 2007. At last, Rosenberg said he was disappointed in Goldberg over his ungrateful conduct despite the recognition he’s gotten throughout his career.
