On June 8th, Indian T20I star Rinku Singh got engaged to MP Priya Saroj in a lavish ceremony at The Centrum, a luxury five-star hotel in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. In addition to the couple’s family members, select guests from both the cricketing and the political world were present in the ceremony.

Prior to the engagement ceremony, Rinku Singh, accompanied by his family members, visited a temple in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, to seek blessings. The couple arrived at The Centrum’s Fulcurn Hall, which was adorned by eloquent lighting and floral decorations, in matching white and pink outfits, with their faces brightened up. Singh was last seen with the Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2025 IPL season.

A video of the event showed Rinku Singh’s engagement ceremony being attended by a host of high-profile guests, including former cricketers Praveen Kumar and Piyush Chawla, and UP Ranji team captain Aryan Juyal. Apart from them, political leaders like Samajwadi Party chief and ex-UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, his wife Dimple Yadav, Jaya Bachchan and BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla, were also present.

Rinku Singh’s fiancee, Priya Saroj is a young politician and lawyer. She is the youngest Member of Parliament in the country, representing the Machhlishahr constituency of Uttar Pradesh in the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian Parliament. The 25-year-old entered politics last year, making an astounding debut by winning the constituency by a margin of more than 35,000 votes against veteran BP Saroj.

Born on 23 November, 1998 in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, Saroj belongs to a family of politicians. She is the daughter of Samajwadi Party leader Tufani Saroj, who was an MP from 1999 to 2009. Tufani Saroj is currently a Member of the UP Legislative Assembly from Kerakat constituency. Before joining politics, Priya Saroj practiced in the Supreme Court of India, after having studied law at Amity University in Noida.

Tufani Saroj, Priya’s father, confirmed that his daughter and Singh have been in a relationship for over a year, since the two met at an event and started out as friends. He even added that the couple waited for the approval of their families before deciding upon formalizing their relationship. Now, with the engagement done, Rinku Singh and Priya Saroj have embarked on a new journey of life.

Coming back to the Kolkata Knight Riders star’s display in the recently concluded IPL season, Rinku Singh failed to replicate his performances from the 2024 title-winning campaign. He scored just 206 runs at an average of just 29.42, and a strike rate of 153.73, as KKR finished eighth on the points table.

Emerging players put Rinku Singh’s future with the Indian T20I team under threat

While 27-year-old Rinku Singh remains a vital cog of India’s T20I setup, he might find his position in the squad under threat due to a subdued 2025 IPL season. Moreover, the emergence of new talents has increased the competition, while putting Singh’s role in scrutiny.

Singh has been a consistent performer for the Indian T20I side for the past year, having scored 546 runs in 30 matches at an average of 42.00 and a strike rate of 165.14. However, he might face stiff competition for the lower order batting spots from several emerging players in the IPL, including PBKS’ Shashank Singh, DC’s Ashutosh Sharma, RCB’s Jitesh Sharma, MI’s Naman Dhir and LSG’s Ayush Badoni.

Therefore, it remains to be seen who manages to secure a spot in India’s T20I team, in the runup to the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup, which is set to be hosted by India and Sri Lanka. It will also be interesting to see which players make it to the team, which faces Bangladesh, Australia and South Africa next.
