The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the 15-man-squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup, which will be captained by Rohit Sharma. While many of the selections in the team were expected, everyone was surprised with the exclusion of Rinku Singh.
The squad has players who will play their maiden T20 World Cup- Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube, Mohammed Siraj, and Kuldeep Yadav. Rohit Sharma will participate in his 8th T20 World Cup, alongside Shakib Al Hasan. India’s pace attack is led by Jasprit Bumrah, who missed the last edition due to injury. Yuzvendra Chahal also returns to the Indian team after 10 months.
Rinku Singh won’t be a part of the Indian main squad, but will be traveling as a reserve. Alongside him Shubman Gill, Khaleel Ahmed and Avesh Khan will be part of the reserves. Notable names like KL Rahul and Dinesh Karthik missed out on selection. Ravi Bishnoi, who is 6th in the ICC T20 bowlers ranking, has also been ignored.

Fans slam BCCI for ‘poor’ selections after they ignore Rinku Singh
The Indian squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup has received mixed responses, but one thing every fan agrees on is that Rinku Singh should’ve been selected. The southpaw from Aligarh has great stats for India (356 runs, average of 89 and SR of 176.2), but is still ignored.
Fans claimed the selection team made the wrong choice, with many believing the team wasn’t good enough to win the World Cup. Many were also unhappy of the selections of Mohammed Siraj and wanted Sandeep Sharma instead.

India’s T20 WC campaign begins on 5th June, when they face Ireland in New York. The team reached the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-finals, losing to England by 10 wickets. They will now hope for a different result, with a new squad. India can make changes to their selected 15, but it must be done before 25th May.
