Rio Ferdinand is expecting big things from Manchester United wonderkid Mason Greenwood. Ferdinand predicts that he could make the England Euro 2021 squad.
The European Championships have been pushed back by 12 months due to the coronavirus pandemic. But former Man Utd defender, Ferdinand, believes that is good news for Greenwood.
The 18-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough campaign under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s guidance at Old Trafford. Greenwood netted 17 senior goals and establish himself as a first team regular.
Rio Ferdinand believes Mason Greenwood can become a great striker

Ferdinand is in awe of Greenwood’s ability and told The Sun just how good the striker can become.
“Mason is a cold-hearted killer, a great finisher,” Ferdinand said.
“He’s just doing it on a different pitch and in a bigger stadium, with more people watching. Greenwood is got all the same habits.”
“He’s a natural goalscorer who is going to score loads and loads of goals.”
Ferdinand then tipped Greenwood to follow in the footsteps of two former United strikers, Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen. Both the former Man Utd stars made England tournament squads as teenagers. They also had a major impact for the Three Lions. The delayed competition gives Greenwood the time to further his own development both at Old Trafford and on the international scene.
“Could the Euros being delayed by a year actually work out for Mason? Probably, yeah,” Ferdinand added.
“Michael Owen and Wayne Rooney are two great examples. Owen burst on to the scene at the 1998 World Cup. Mason could do the same, given the chance.”
“I love him. He’s a great talent and what I also love about him is his demeanour, his character. No matter the stage, same face, same expression, same way he carries himself.”
“He knows he’s good enough. ‘Just give me the ball and I’ll do it.”
“He ain’t got all that stuff going on off the pitch. There are no airs and graces about him. There isn’t anything else he’s worried about.”
“He’s just worried about how good he can be as a footballer. Which is what I really love.”
