Delhi Capitals (DC) suffered their first defeat of the season as they fell to Rajasthan Royals (RR) yesterday at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The match turned out to be a close and low-scoring one unlike the previous matches at the same venue and in the end, it was South African all-rounder Chris Morris‘ fireworks in the last two overs which proved to be the difference between the sides.

Earlier, DC were rocked back by a stunning opening spell from Jaydev Unadkat that saw him pick three wickets. With a major chunk of the top-order gone, it was left to skipper Rishabh Pant to steady the ship and rescue the innings. The youngster did it with some aplomb as he counter-attacked and scored a fifty. He then got run-out and DC got to 147 – a total that did not prove to be enough.

The Indian Premier League has brought in stricter provisions to curb slow over-rates this year. The likes of MS Dhoni have already been fined for the same reason. This is exactly why captains have been more alert this season with regard to keeping up with time. In yesterday’s match between DC and RR, play was stopped briefly as the umpire checked and counted as to how many players were placed outside the ring.

This led to a delay in proceedings and Pant made it a point to remind the umpire that the delay was caused by him and that it should not count to slow over-rate. He could be heard saying on the stump mic, “This one minute is taken by you umpire.” This moment has gone viral with fans appreciating Pant’s sense of humour and chatter behind the stumps.
