IPL 2021: “He has been my go-to-man” – Rishabh Pant speaks on his learnings from MS Dhoni
MS Dhoni and Rishabh Pant
Rishabh Pant had his first taste of cricket as the captain of an Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise as he led the Delhi Capitals (DC) franchise in their first game against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The youngster’s captaincy tenure got off to a good start as well, as the side aced a chase of 189 thanks to splendid knocks at the top of the order from Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan.
CSK had earlier got to the score of 188, riding on Suresh Raina‘s breathtaking fifty and useful contributions from Englishmen Moeen Ali and Sam Curran. However, the score did not prove to be enough as the DC openers made merry and did not give the CSK bowlers room to settle by going after them in each and every over. In the end, the chase was done and dusted in just 18.4 overs.
Rishabh Pant speaks on DC’s victory
Rishabh Pant spoke at the post-match presentation about his counterpart MS Dhoni and said, “It was very special walking out for the toss with MS. He has been my go to man. I have learnt a lot from him.“
He then spoke about the win and said, “It always feels good when you get the win in the end. In the middle phase, I was under some pressure. But Avesh and Tom did well in the middle to restrict them to 188. We were thinking of what we’ll do without Nortje and Rabada and I thought we had to do with the options we have. No, there was no effort for the NRR as it is still early stages in the tournament. Prithvi and Shikhar did well for us in the powerplay. They kept it simple and played some good cricketing shots.”
DC play their next match against the Rajasthan Royals on the 15th of April while CSK play the Punjab Kings on the 16th.
