“I am obsessed with Rishabh Pant” – Sourav Ganguly talks of ‘fantastic’ Indian players

A terrific season for India following the COVID-19 pandemic has ended and now, the players have all dispersed to their respective franchises for the Indian Premier League (IPL). Even as the extravaganza of the IPL begins, fans won’t easily forget the feats achieved by India in Australia and later, at home against England. Just 1 out of the 6 series was lost and it signified a period of domination for India.

At the forefront of India’s dominant displays was wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant who all but sealed a place in the playing XI across all three formats when he wasn’t even in the squad for the limited overs before the two series began. Further, he was behind Wriddhiman Saha in the pecking order in red-ball cricket. However, thanks to his stunning displays, he is India’s preferred wicket-keeper at present.

Sourav Ganguly speaks on Indian players

President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Sourav Ganguly spoke to a YouTube chat show about the Indian cricketers’ feats and said, “All [among current cricketers] are fantastic players. As president of the BCCI, I shouldn’t pick one over the other. I enjoy Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s batting. I am obsessed with Rishabh Pant. I like Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami. I like Shardul Thakur because has got guts.”

Ganguly then spoke about his health as he was hospitalized earlier this year and had to undergo angioplasty. Speaking about his health condition, “I am fit and fine and back to work.”

Sourav Ganguly’s focus will now be on smoothly conducting the IPL which begins on the 9th of April.
