One Championship mixed martial artist and wrestler, Ritu Phogat and her family have been left shell-shocked after the death of her cousin Ritika Phogat, who died by committing suicide at the tender age of 17, on the 17th of March. She is believed to have hung herself after losing the finals of a wrestling tournament held in Bharatpur.

Ritu Phogat took to Twitter to express her grief and shock, revealing that she and her family have been deeply disturbed by the loss of Ritika. She also urged people to respect their family’s privacy.

She then requested people to not spread and believe in any rumours. She tweeted, “I have been getting messages all morning today. I am very sad and disturbed about what happened in my family. I urge people to not spread and believe in any rumours and act responsibly. These are tough times for me and my family and I urge you all to respect our privacy.“

It’s sad to see such a promising talent take their own life away at such a young age. Suicide awareness has been pretty poor in a country like India. May her soul rest in peace!
