Road Dogg was one of CM Punk‘s most vocal critics after the latter left WWE in 2014. However, their relationship dynamics have changed tremendously in recent times. Speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Brian James revealed that he had nothing but hatred in his mind for the Best in the World for nearly a decade. Furthermore, he thought that the Chicago native had similar feelings for him.
However, the Straight Edge Superstar gave him a hug after his return to WWE. This made Road Dogg realize that he was holding onto hatred that perhaps never existed. He realized that Punk probably hadn’t even thought about their issues in all these years.
The former Intercontinental Champion also realized that CM Punk was a much different person than he used to be. He once even told the 46-year-old that he really appreciated his dude. The latter responded by saying that this was the first time someone had said something like this to him.
So, CM Punk—I thought he and I hated each other’s guts for 10 years. In my head, I hated him, and I thought he hated me too. A lot of stuff happened back and forth, good times and bad.

However, it is great to see that the two superstars finally mended their relationship. Dogg had also revealed that he got highly emotional and hugged it out with the Second City Saint when he made his return to the company in 2023. He even said that he felt ashamed of his behavior.
Road Dogg reveals he wanted Big E to win the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 35 instead of Kofi Kingston
Kofi Kingston had the moment of his career when he won the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 35 after months of being told that he wasn’t good enough. What made this moment even more perfect was that he won against Daniel Bryan, someone who was in the same position five years earlier. However, it appears not everyone within WWE was initially pushing for this story.

During his interview with CVV, Road Dogg revealed that the story worked out exactly how it should have. However, he was initially pushing for Big E to win the title at the show instead. His writing team told him that he was wrong, which he later admitted by stating that he did not realize that Kofi Kingston had such a personal connection with the fans. Shortly after WrestleMania 35, the 55-year-old resigned from his role as lead writer.
The timing was Kofi. It was Kofi time. Have I never been so happy to be wrong. Couldn’t be more happy for the guy it happened for too. If I was writing again, we’d do it one more time, because I think it would work again. I 100% think it would work again.

Dogg is now back with WWE in a major way. It was recently reported that he has returned as a creative writer for SmackDown. Some fans were upset by this news, as WWE programming was at its worst during that time. However, AJ Styles immediately jumped to his defense, saying that it wasn’t the DX member’s fault. Rather, Vince McMahon overrode most of the decisions, leading to the terrible state of the blue brand at the time.
