There are always hidden gems scattered throughout the less famous schools in the NCAA that go under the radar of the college scouts. One of those undiscovered gems might be Robert Morris Colonials’ Rob Carter Jr.
On Saturday, Carter traveled to Utah State to face the Aggies and managed to stick out like a sore thumb—in a good way. If he did not have big college football programs not looking at him, they would certainly be after his latest play.
In the second quarter, Robert Morris led Utah 14-10. With just seconds left on the clock for the break, Utah State’s quarterback Bryson Barnes launched a deep pass looking for wide receiver Grant Page. The pass did not reach its intended target because Rob Carter Jr. leaped up as if he had sprung his legs and grabbed the ball.
Holy COW.

Usually, Mountain West teams don’t get TV coverage because fans want to see the more popular teams play. However, it’s moments like these that bring unknown teams and players under the spotlight.
Rob Carter Jr.’s interception was not enough for Robert Morris to get a win over Utah State
It was a mismatch if stat connoisseurs want to know. The Utah State Aggies may not have the best offense, but they were still ranked 26th (33.2 points) among the FBS Schools last season. However, they had the 12th-worst defense allowing 34.7 points per game. Offensively, Robert Morris ranked 107th in the FCS with 299.0 yards per game and ranked 67th in total defense (371.5 yards allowed per contest) in 2023.
Even before the game kicked off, the Aggies were the massive favorites to secure their first win. They did just that, despite Rob Carter Jr.’s spectacular interception.
Spencer Petras started the game for Utah State but he was taken off after throwing 2 picks in quick succession. Petras completed one touchdown pass of 57 yards in the first quarter to Kyrese White. He ended the game with 10/15, 145 yards. 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions.
Bryson Barnes took over from Petras who threw the third Aggies pick in the game to Rob Carter Jr. Barnes ended the game with 12/21, 198 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 pick. Utah’s best receiver was Kyrese Rowan with 3 catches for 131 yards and 2 touchdowns.

As for Robert Morris, quarterback Anthony Chiccitt took the majority of the snaps in the game. He completed 22/30 for 171 yards. 1 touchdown and 1 interception. Mitchell Cole was the best receiver for the Colonials, with 4 catches for 60 yards and 1 touchdown.
Rob Carter Jr. capped off a decent individual performance as well. The safety lodged 3 combined tackles (2 solo) and 1 pick from Utah’s QB Barnes. Up next, Robert Morris will take on Edinboro Fighting Scots while Utah State travels to Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams‘ alma mater, 23rd ranked team USC Trojans.
