Tom Brady’s ex-teammate Rob Gronkowski doesn’t believe Aaron Rodgers will end Jets’ Super Bowl drought this season

After ending last season on a disappointing note, the New York Jets are optimistic about their Super Bowl chances this season. For one, Aaron Rodgers is back and healthy. They also have a team hungry to prove everyone wrong. The front office has made sure Rodgers has the best players around him. But despite all that, Rodgers’ former rival, Tom Brady‘s ex-teammate Rob Gronkowski is not sold on the Jets’ chances.
The 4-time Super Bowl champion was speaking on First Things First via video conference on Saturday. When asked if he saw a similar outcome from Rodgers to when Tom Brady moved teams in his 40s and still won the Super Bowl, he said:
I see the Jets having success and making the playoffs, I don't really see a Super Bowl. I see him dominating that's for sure, definitely putting up touchdowns and having a great ratio of touchdowns to interceptions. People love to see legacy quarterbacks switch teams at the end of their career and see how they fair. Just like Tom Brady when he went to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. We'll see.Rob Gronkowski said
He wants to see Aaron Rodgers do well after suffering a season ending injury in his first game last season. However, Gronk feels a Super Bowl may be out of reach for Rodgers.
Rob Gronkowski might have a logic to that, as it is rare for a great quarterback to switch teams late in their careers and win a Super Bowl. He referenced his own former teammate Tom Brady as being one of the few to do that.
But for that to happen, a lot of things have to come together. However, Gronkowski is buying into the stock of Aaron Rodgers possibly succeeding, as he and everyone in the NFL fraternity know that the New York Jets have done a fantastic job this off season.
Aaron Rodgers will need to lead by example
Going into this season, it might seem for fans of the New York Jets that there might be some cracks in the team. Rodgers not joining the mandatory minicamp was itself a red flag. After he returned, it was revealed that he was on vacation. Later he even had an altercation with star wideout Garrett Wilson during practice.
All of this might point to a lack of chemistry between the teammates. But Aaron Rodgers has seen it all. If he can use his experience and knowledge of the game to bring his teammates together, a Super Bowl should not be out of reach. However, he must lead by example. Taking a vacation and arguing with teammates is not the best way to start.
They say winning cures everything. But for winning to happen, Rodgers will have to motivate the team to buy into his vision. If that happens, wins will follow and so will confidence. That confidence will matter at the latter stages of the season. It seems it is because of all these question marks that Rob Gronkowski has his doubts. But it can all change for the better.
