Some big changes seem to be on the way for MLB. In a recent interview, Commissioner Rob Manfred confirmed that the league will implement an automated strike zone.

While this technology has already made its entry into the minor leagues, a decision regarding its usage in the major leagues was still in the process. According to Manfred, the automatic strike zone could make its way into the MLB within the next four years.

We have decided we’re going to test the challenge version, you know, there’s two versions of ABS, one where every pitch gets called in the umpire’s ear, the other is a challenge system. We’re going to test this challenge system in spring training with major league players.

Rob Manfred said on Dan Patrick Show.

Manfred also claimed that it was hard to “ignore” that kind of technology when it is available for use.

I think you will see some version of the automated strike zone in the big leagues in the next four years. The technology piece of it is so robust Dan, literally the path of the pitch is tracked to one-one hundredth of an inch. It’s just hard to ignore that kind of technology when it’s available.

Rob Manfred said on Dan Patrick Show.

In recent years, several fans have urged the league to start using the automated strike zone after some poor decisions from umpires. The four-year timetable for MLB to implement this system would mean that this will take place before the end of Manfred’s tenure as commissioner of MLB in 2029.

Rob Manfred comments on White Sox’s relocation talks

The 2024 season was one to forget for the Chicago White Sox. The 3-time World Series winner produced one of the worst seasons in MLB history as they set an unwanted record for most losses in a 162-game season.

Following this, there had been reports suggesting that the owner Jerry Reinsdorf has considered selling the team. Commissioner Rob Manfred has now commented on this situation as well.

During an interview on FS1 Breakfast Ball, the top boss admitted that the team was in trouble but expressed confidence that they (White Sox) would get through this.

Chicago is an anchor city for us. I think that the White Sox are in a difficult situation. I think the location of the stadium is tough, but I have confidence that things are going to work out in Chicago and that we’re going to continue to have two teams in Chicago.

Rob Manfred said on FS1 Breakfast Ball.

This relocation talks of the White Sox comes just after Manfred and the MLB were unable to stop the relocation of the Oakland Athletics. Only time will now tell whether Manfred’s words on White Sox staying in Chicago will come true or not.
