The Undertaker has faced several stars in a career at WrestleMania. He has had a legendary streak that, to this day, is considered one of the best records of all time. Recently, a 16-time champion in WWE talked about the chance he had to face the Deadman at WrestleMania and the reason why he could not.
Speaking on the 1 of a Kind Podcast, Rob Van Dam revealed that there were some plans for him and The Undertaker to go against each other at WrestleMania. He added that the plan was at the early stage of his career. Therefore, WWE scrapped it because he was not popular enough in the WWE Universe to have a blockbuster bout with the Phenom at WrestleMania.
I was told at one point when I was first there in WWE getting one of those first momentum rides. There’s a story that they were thinking of putting me in WrestleMania, maybe it was against The Undertaker, I’m not sure. It sounded like a main event spot or at least a really high on the card spot, and said party said, ‘No he’s not over enough.’Rob Van Dam via 1 of a Kind
RVD accepted that, at that time, he was not a household name. He believed that such high-stakes matches should involve someone with a reputation. Eventually, Van Dam also had a boasting WrestleMania streak of 4-0. He had a successful career at the Showcase of the Immortals. He won a total of 16 titles in WWE across all the brands. However, even that was not enough to achieve the level of the Phenom.
The Deadman retired from WWE in 2020 after he defeated AJ Styles at WrestleMania 37. During his iconic streak, he defeated stars like Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Edge, and even CM Punk. As for now, he is pretty busy sharing his experience and insights with talents like a true legend.
The Undertaker revealed he has a huge respect for CM Punk
The Undertaker and CM Punk have a rich history. The two stars went toe to toe at WrestleMania 29 in one of the most personal matches of the Phenom’s career. Recently, while talking about CM Punk in one of his recent interviews, the Deadman revealed that he has much respect for the Best in the World.

Speaking on the Mighty Cast, the WWE Hall of Famer said that he has great admiration for the Second City Saint for trying his luck in MMA. He said that after having a successful career in one sport, trying another is a major brave move. Taker added that Punk did it, and he owed up to his losses. Now, seeing him back where he belongs is what makes the Phenom respect the Voice of the Voiceless.
One thing with Punk that I do respect is the fact that he tried it. He had a huge name in wrestling before he tried mixed martial arts. He had a lot to lose because [wrestling] was his money maker and then you go over [to MMA] and get your ass handed to you.The Undertaker via Mighty Cast
Moreover, the Straight Edge Superstar competed in UFC in 2016 and 2018. He had a pretty lackluster record that led to him retiring from the sport just after two bouts. He then returned to professional wrestling in 2021 in AEW and then came back to WWE at Survivor Series 2023.
