RG3 believes WNBA players have become envious of Caitlin Clark's fame.

Robert Griffin III had a change of perspective on Saturday about whether the athletes are deliberately targeting Caitlin Clark. The retired NFL quarterback has been a vocal supporter of women’s basketball and the recognition it has received since the emergence of the Iowa product.
Stardom always creates enemies and Caitlin Clark appeared to have made quite a few. Following her draft to the Indiana Fever, Clark began slowly adjusting to the pace and physicality of the game compared to college.
It has been a massive learning curve with big hiccups along the way. However, the reception from other players made the process even more difficult for the rookie.
Robert Griffin III, on May 31 tried to defend the players targeting Clark, claiming they were showing respect by beating competitive. He backtracked on those words after just one game.
Caitlin Clark has SUPERCHARGED Women’s Basketball. She is a STAR. The women in the @WNBA aren’t “hating” on her. They are showing her respect by trying to beat her on the court. In the end, CC will adjust and the Indiana Fever will give the league chills in the next few years. pic.twitter.com/dIHVjG5pKz

Does Robert Griffin III believe WNBA players are out to get Caitlin Clark?
On Saturday, Chicago Sky’s Chennedy Carter’s late third-quarter hit on Clark became an example that can’t be overlooked. Carter’s actions weren’t appropriate considering she was caught doing it on live TV and to a player that everyone had their eyes on.
The latest incident forced RG3 to view the scenario from a different angle which he perhaps did not want to. To describe Carter’s hit on Clark, Griffin deliberately used the word ‘hate’, instead of competitive.
Okay, this IS HATING on Caitlin Clark. Face guarding, extremely aggressive play and the occasional hard foul can be describe as competitiveness. Going out of your way to call her out of her name and body check her to the floor without the ball is HATING. https://t.co/osFk320wMp pic.twitter.com/cRtiSnDVkm

Although Carter refused to comment after losing the game by a narrow margin, in NFL terms this brought back memories of Sean Payton’s infamous bounty gate scandal from the late-2000’s.
Former New Orleans Saints head coach Payton and defensive coordinator Greg Williams reportedly gave players a hitlist of names to target during their game. Aaron Rodgers, Brett Favre, and Kurt Warner are a few of the opposition players who faced the full frontal assault in the guise of tackling by Saints defenders.
Later, the league found Williams guilty after initially denying all the allegations. Commissioner Roger Goodell was ready to impose sanctions on Williams and Payton but had to cancel that after a pushback from NFL owners.
Clark’s situation hasn’t reached that sort of a situation just yet, but she would soon end up in the hospital if the referees don’t adequately punish the perpetrator. Griffin is well familiar with that environment as his NFL career was cut short after a terrible knee injury during the 2014 playoffs as part of the Washington Commanders.
