Josh Allen has had the upper hand on Patrick Mahomes during regular season football. It’s the postseason where he struggles to beat the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback.

Sunday’s loss in the AFC Championship game was Allen’s fourth consecutive loss against Mahomes in the postseason. 2x Super Bowl winner Booger McFarland sympathized with the 28-year-old, saying he’s born in the wrong generation because Mahomes will be in his way every season.

Another former player echoed a similar view about Allen’s situation. Ex-Washington quarterback Robert Griffin III compared Allen with Philip Rivers, who during his time had to compete with the likes of Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, and Drew Brees.

I do believe that Patrick Mahomes has turned Josh Allen into Philip Rivers. They can play perfectly and it’s still not perfect enough. So now Josh Allen is on a Philip Rivers trajectory, and that’s not a bad trajectory; Philip just doesn’t have any Super Bowls.

Robert Griffin III said in a recent segment of Up & Adams with Kay Adams

It may sting a little for the Bills Mafia, but RG3 isn’t wrong. Allen isn’t oblivious to the fact either. He knows to be the best; he has to beat the best and currently, that’s Mahomes.

We’re constantly knocking at the door and you’re playing a team like the Chiefs, who have done it so well for so long. You got to not just knock; you got to kick the door down, and we didn’t do that.

When facing Mahomes and Co., even 65% pass completions (22 from 34) for 237 passing yards and two passing touchdowns aren’t enough. It’s the clutch moments that decide the outcome of the game and the Chiefs quarterback’s remarkable 10-yard rushing touchdown five minutes into the fourth quarter was the play that tipped the balance away from the Bills.

When reporters asked Allen about his plans for the off-season, the 2x All-Pro highlighted that he needs a little bit of alone time to collect his thoughts and recover from the wrist injury he suffered right before halftime.

I got a little banged-up hand right now, a wrist. So, I got to talk with docs right now and figure it out. It was just right at the goal line… I was able to finish the game with just some swelling.

The hardest part of the offseason will be watching the Chiefs potentially securing a three-peat before he even had the chance to lay in a Super Bowl. Regardless, the new season brings renewed hope and energy to fight to be the no. 1 once more.
