Robert Griffin III seems to have sent shockwaves through the NFL with a bold declaration in the age-old debate between Tua Tagovailoa and Justin Herbert. When asked to choose between two of the league’s most promising quarterbacks, the sports analyst picked the Miami Dolphins star despite his alarming number of recorded concussions.

Both Tagovailoa and Herbert have been at the center of discussions since their rookie seasons. Herbert, drafted by the Los Angeles Chargers, quickly gained recognition for his impressive stats after a record-breaking rookie season for touchdowns and yards. In contrast, Tagovailoa, who selected the Dolphins, showed some flashes of brilliance but faced challenges with playing time and struggled with injuries.

While Herbert is arguably preferred over Tagovailoa because of his consistency and stats, RG3 doesn’t believe so. During his appearance on The Dan Patrick Show, he asserted that he would choose Tagovailoa over Herbert at any given time. “If I had to pick, I’m taking Tua Tagovailoa. I am. I am taking Tua over Justin Herbert,” asserted Griffin III.

Blurring Tagovailoa’s struggle with injuries, Griffin III believes in his upside and ability to perform under pressure. Interestingly, the statistical comparison of the 2024 season backs RG3’s claim. While Herbert completed 332 passes out of 504 attempts with a completion rate of 65.9%, Tagovailoa completed 291 out of 399 attempts, resulting in a higher completion rate of 72.9%.

Tua Tagovailoa’s injury history prompts Dolphins to consider Jalen Milroe as backup quarterback

Griffin III may favor Tagovailoa, but his team, the Dolphins seems to be preparing for the future without him. After the quarterback’s third concussion raised significant concerns regarding his future in the league, the Dolphins began to scrutinize his arm strength, which has been observed to be inconsistent in throwing the ball downfield.

Though there haven’t been any official statements from the team, the Dolphins have spoken to Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe to draft him as the backup to Tagovailoa. The team is focusing on securing a reliable backup quarterback since it has been a concern due to Tagovailoa’s injury history.

As for Milroe, despite his inconsistent performances in the final season at Alabama, he has shown himself as a promising dual-threat quarterback. His conversations with the Dolphins suggest that he is being considered for a development role, learning behind Tagovailoa and potentially growing into a more significant role in the future.
