Robert Griffin III never shies away from voicing his opinion, but this time, he may have bitten off more than he can chew. The retired NFL quarterback’s scathing comments about Kevin Stefanski’s role in Shedeur Sanders’ development have received a negative review on social media.

Griffin wore his old Cleveland Browns jersey in a recent video to discuss Stefanski’s mistreatment of Sanders. He accused the Browns’ head coach of favoring rookie Dillon Gabriel over Sanders.

Shedeur Sanders was never given equal opportunity to compete with Dillon Gabriel, and the Browns showed us that throughout training camp and the preseason. If it were a real competition, Dillon and Shedeur would have played with the same talent around them in the last game.

The game RG3 highlighted was the Browns’ final preseason fixture against the Los Angeles Rams. Sanders was paired with a makeshift offensive line that gave miserable protection to the rookie quarterback.

Stefanki’s next move added fuel to the raging fire. He benched Sanders with just two minutes left until the final whistle.

The Browns won the game, but fans wanted Sanders to finish it instead of Tyler Huntley, who was cut from the roster along with four of the five offensive linemen a day later. Griffin saw the whole process as an elaborate plan to ensure Sanders’ downfall.

A major pushback against RG3’s hypothesis came from an unlikely source. Quincy Avery, personal coach of Browns injured quarterback Deshaun Watson, called out Griffin for attempting to muddy the already muddy waters.

Y’all keep responding to RG3 he’s gonna keep saying stupid stuff. He lives for this engagement.

Quincy Avery tweeted

Griffin has a history of crossing boundaries, but trying to turn a fanbase against an NFL team’s head coach might be too much, even for him.

Shedeur Sanders received positive news in his bid to be part of the Browns’ 53-man roster

The preseason finale dealt a big blow to Sanders’ aspirations of leaping over Kenny Pickett and Gabriel in the race for the backup quarterback job behind Joe Flacco. His position on the Browns depth chart remained unchanged.

Despite the disappointing conclusion, Sanders remained optimistic about locking down a roster spot. On Monday, he received positive news for the first time in weeks.

The Browns made the bold move of trading Pickett to the Las Vegas Raiders, even though they were happy with a quarterback room of four players.

Ironically, the Browns traded for Pickett in the offseason to make him the team’s bridge quarterback with Flacco as his number two. The roles reversed near the end of the camp when Pickett suffered a hamstring injury. As a result, he missed a chunk of practice and the entire preseason.

Stefanski has already announced Flacco as his starting quarterback for the Browns’ week one fixture against the Cincinnati Bengals. Gabriel and Sanders now have the opportunity to fight for the QB2 spot.

Sanders’ draft took a historic nosedive after NFL teams passed on him on the first two days of the draft. The Browns took a chance on the Colorado graduate despite drafting Gabriel two rounds prior.

The 23-year-old had an incredible final year in college football. He completed 74% of his passes for 4134 yards and 37 touchdowns, leading the Buffaloes to the Alamo Bowl.
