“The one I wanted… it means everything” – Robert Maclntyre celebrates home win at the 2024 Scottish Open

Robert MacIntyre won the 2024 Scottish Open, fulfilling his long-awaited dream. He becomes only the second Scot in history to secure this prestigious title in his homeland, following Collin Montgomerie in 1999.
MacIntyre faced a slow start but sparked his round with a remarkable putt on the 3rd hole. However, he encountered trouble on the 16th when he had to take a free drop due to his stance being compromised by a sprinkler head, despite making par on the 15th.
This unconventional drop led to a pivotal eagle that drew him level with Adam Scott for the lead. After the win at the Genesis Scottish Open 2024, Robert thanked his fans with a video message.

MacIntyre expressed his joy and gratitude, calling it an incredible week. Winning this particular tournament, the Scottish Open, was particularly meaningful to him, and he described it as everything he had hoped for.
Robert MacIntyre opens up on support from home crowd and family
When Robert MacIntyre won, the crowd erupted into cheers, chanting “Robert, Robert, Robert!” They sang the Scottish national anthem, “Flower of Scotland,” in celebration. MacIntyre marked his victory with a joyful handshake with fellow golfer Sahith Theegala and a traditional bagpipe salute.
The win is MacIntyre’s second PGA Tour victory in a little over a month. He is projected to move from 39th to 16th in the FedExCup standings. The ceremony was filled with emotion, with MacIntyre’s family and caddie, Mike Burrows, joining in. Robert himself was overcome with emotions.

MacIntyre sank a crucial 22-foot birdie putt on the final hole to secure the win. The crowd erupted in cheers as MacIntyre’s putt found the bottom of the cup, making him the first Scot to win the national open in 25 years.

He earned $1.575 million as the winner of the $9 million event. This was MacIntyre’s second win of the 2024 PGA Tour season. His previous victory came at the RBC Canadian Open last month.
