Robert MacIntyre shot a 7-under 63 in the third round of the 2024 Genesis Scottish Open. He currently sits in solo second place, two shots behind the leader Ludvig Aberg. The 27-year-old moved to Orlando, Florida, at the start of 2024 but has struggled with loneliness while on the road in America.
He went on a short sabbatical back to Scotland and brought his father on the bag for the start of the spring, during which he won the Canadian Open, the biggest victory of his career.
MacIntyre has been vocal about his desire to win the Scottish Open, his home event. He seems confident on his chances.
I've not been shy in saying it: The Scottish Open is the one I want. It's not going to change tomorrow. I'm in that position. I've been doing good things. I've been playing well. Not just this week but for the previous kind of eight weeks, I feel like my game has been in good shape.Robert MacIntyre said
However, MacIntyre’s heart has remained focused on the Scottish Open.
Tomorrow is just another round of golf, and I’ve just got to control me and if I do that well, then I’m going to be in with a chance.
Robert MacIntyre added
A win at the Scottish Open would be a homecoming story for the ages. MacIntyre will play in the final pairing on Sunday alongside Aberg, looking to become the first Scottish winner of the event since Paul Lawrie in 1999.
Genesis Scottish Open 2024 Standings
Robert MacIntyre and Rory McIlroy will be paired together in the final round. McIlroy, the defending champion, is five shots off the lead after a frustrating third-round 67. The world No. 2 felt he could have been a few shots better as he missed several birdie opportunities on the back nine.
Other notable performances include Adam Scott, who shot 64 to finish one shot behind MacIntyre. Francesco Molinari earned a berth in the weekend’s play with a hole-in-one on the par-3 ninth hole during the second round.
