After putting on a clinic against Kelvin Gastelum, Robert Whittaker wants Israel Adesanya next
Robert Whittaker put on a stunning performance against the renewed Kelvin Gastelum, as he won via. unanimous decision with 50-45 on all three judges’ scorecards. ‘The Reaper’ thereby cemented his position as the number 1 ranked middleweight contender, and will be looking forward to getting the belt.
Speaking at the post-fight interview with Michael Bisping, Whittaker exclaimed that he wanted to run it back with Israel Adesanya, and that he wanted to take on the ‘Last Stylebender’ next.
‘That’s the fight I’ve earned’ – Robert Whittaker
Whittaker was quoted as saying, “The next fight for me is for the title. That’s the fight I’ve earned.”
He continued, “I think it’s about time we crossed paths once again (referring to Adesanya). I’m going to work hard. I think I have some tricks he hasn’t seen yet and I’ll give him a good run.”
Soon after Robert Whittaker beat Gastelum, Adesanya tweeted with a sarcastic undertone, “Good job my son.”
The pair last met at UFC 243, where they fought in the title unification bout (Whittaker was the champion, whereas Izzy was the interim champion). And, in only the second round Whittaker was knocked out by Adesanya, who then became the middleweight champion, and has held the title since then.
Whittaker, since that loss, is 3-0 up, beating Darren Till, Jared Cannonier and most recently Kelvin Gastelum. Can he beat the Last Stylebender this time around?
